(Harruff)

Age 90, of Centerville passed away on Saturday April 12, 2014 at Hospice of Dayton. Pat was born in Lima Ohio and lived most of the rest of her life in Lima, Celina, and the Dayton, Ohio area. She was preceded in death by her parents Orlin T. and Nelle (Dearth) Harruff, her brother Russell Harruff, her sister Avonelle Patton, and her husband's Robert Kimmig, Roger Shelton, and Donald Harris, LTC, USAF Retired. She is survived by her Nephews Richard (Linda) Harruff, Phillip K. (Janna) Patton, Thomas (Anne) Harruff and her niece Sue (Kenneth) Zimmerman. She is also survived by her Step Children Donald (Debbie) Harris, Phillip (Rita) Harris, Susan (Donald )Potts, and Elizabeth (Steve) Sisco. Patricia was the matriarch of two more generations of the blended families including many Grand Nephews and Grand Nieces as well as step Grandchildren and step Great Grand Children. Pat was further blessed by the caring and friendship of a neighbor of 47 years, Maria Mavrouleas. She began her writing career early when she wrote for the Celina High School newspaper The Tattler and she also wrote a weekly column for the Celina newspaper while still in high school. Pat graduated from The Ohio State University in 1948 where she was a life-long member of Delta Zeta Sorority. At OSU she wrote and performed on WOSU radio shows for an estimated 130,000 children where she was known as the Playtime Lady. She subsequently worked in advertising in the Dayton area and as an on-air talent in radio (WING and WHIO), television (WHIO) and in commercial advertising (Bridges Sharp) at a time when advertising was primarily a man's field. In the 1960s and 1970s she won many awards from the Dayton Ad Club (where she served as Secretary for 5 years) for her writing and commercials. She was the voice of Elder-Beerman for a time and her voice was well known in the Dayton area from her many radio and TV commercials. She was a member of the OSU Alumnae, Delta Zeta Sorority, Dayton Power Squadron, Broadcasters Hall of Fame, and the WHIO Retires Group. She and her late Husband Donald Harris, LTC USAF Ret. were active in the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA). Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM at the chapel in the Woodland Cemetery Mausoleum in Dayton, OH. The loving care and comfort provided by Hospice of Dayton to both Pat and Don was so appreciated by the families. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of Dayton.
