Patsy Lynn Hood

April 22, 1936- June 19, 2015

On June 19th in Houston, surrounded by her children and grandchildren, Patsy Hood of Austin, Texas went to be with the Lord.

Patsy was born on April 22, 1936 in Tulia, Texas to Wren and Nellie Mae Vandergriff who preceed her in death along with her older brother, Robert Wren (Bobby) Vandergriff and son James Phillip Hood. She is survived by her half brother and sister, Luther (Luke) and Mary Rocelia.

Patsy is survived by her children Robert Andrew Hood and his wife Annette Hood of San Antonio; and Melody Thomson and her husband Lindsey Thomson of Cypress. She is survived by grandchildren Holly Hood, Robert (Bobby) Hood and his wife Rachel Hood, and Owen Hood; and Zachary Thomson, Alexis Thomson, and Matthew Thomson; and step grandchildren Tiffany Estay and Chrissy Clingman. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren Ariah and Caydan Lentz, Hope Hood, London and Aaron Estay; and Sadie and Hailey Clingman.

Growing up, Patsy attended Canyon High School, where she and her brother Bobby participated in school theater. Patsy and Bobby had a passion for the arts. They loved singing, dancing, and performing for packed auditoriums all over west Texas!

After graduating, Pasty attended West Texas State University, where she worked as a children's tap and ballet instructor while attending classes. West Texas State University is also where she met the love of her life, Robert Encil Hood. After Robert Encil and Pasty Lynn wed in 1956, Robert Encil became a police officer and shortly after joined the Army. Captain Hood and Pasty lived all over the world including Germany, Hawaii and Ft. Hood, Texas. They enjoyed traveling the world together with their children Robert and Melody.

In Patsy's later years, she worked the Texas State Optometry Board. She enjoyed playing bridge as well. In fact, Patsy is in the encyclopedia of bridge among many other books educating those who are interested in the game of Bridge. She held the title of Life Master. Patsy would spend hours and hours discussing bridge hands with friends over late night meals after a tournament.

When Patsy wasn't playing Bridge you could find her spending time with her children and grandchildren. Patsy loved hosting her family and friends at her home where they would play cards until the early hours of the morning. Patsy loved her family more than anything else!

A celebration of Pasty Lynn Hood's life will be held Friday, June 26 at First United Methodist Church in San Marcos, Texas at 12:00pm. In lieu of flowers and as a memorial to Patsy, the family suggests donations to First United Methodist Church designated to the flood relief fund.

Family and friends are invited to a reception lunch following service at the church.

Additionally, graveside visitation is at 9am, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, in San Antonio Texas where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Robert Hood, who passed in 1965.
