Obituary
Pasquale (Patsy) Francis Schiappa, husband for nearly 70 years of the late Lillian Winona (Livingstone) Schiappa, passed away on November 19, 2012 in Columbia, Maryland at the age of 97. Funeral services are private.
Pat was born on June 1, 1915 in Danbury, Connecticut to the late Frank Schiappa and Bridget (Leone) Schiappa. The family moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut when Pat was about six months old, and he lived in Bridgeport for the next 63 years before moving to Milford, Connecticut. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Central High School in Bridgeport in 1933.
During the 1930's, Pat was a professional musician and played with several of the "big bands" in the area. He played tenor banjo and acoustic Spanish guitar and was one of the very first in the Bridgeport area to acquire an electric guitar, which he personally converted to a Hawaiian style guitar.
Pat married Lillian Winona Livingstone in 1941. He was a proud U. S. Navy veteran of World War 2, and served as an instructor at the Naval Air technical Training Center in Norman, Oklahoma. When he was discharged from the U.S. Navy in December, 1945, his superior officers presented him with a personal Letter of High Recommendation.
In 1964, Pat retired from the Dewhirst Dairy in Bridgeport after nearly 30 years of service. He retired in 1981 from the State of Connecticut Transportation Department. In addition to his wife of nearly 70 years, he was predeceased by his brother, Joseph, and his sister, Nancy. Pat is survived by his brother Anthony (Tony) Schiappa of Trumbull, Connecticut; his sister, Marguerite S. Bassett of Mount Dora, Florida; his son, David F. Hickey-Schiappa and daughter-in-law, Noreen, of Meriden, Connecticut; his daughter, Patricia W S Douglas of Columbia, Maryland; his grandchildren: Meredith (Hickey-Schiappa) Klepper and Steven Klepper of Baltimore, Maryland; Emily A. (Douglas) Mullen and Rocky Surin of Catonsville, Maryland; Jessica N. (Douglas) Washington and Anthony L. Washington of Cheverly, Maryland; Colin Hickey-Schiappa of Connecticut and Ernest E. Douglas, II, of Columbia, Maryland; and by his great-grandchildren: Colin Hickey-Schiappa, Jr., Vivian and Malcolm Klepper; Aniya Douglas; Lahna and Jansen Surin; Kaylee and Cassidy Washington; and many nieces and nephews and their children.
