TERRY, Paul A. "Pat," 75, of Glen Allen passed away Tuesday May 9, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Linda Terry, his daughter Paula Terry Royal (Juan), daughter Nicolle Terry Morgan (Andy), stepson Darrin Huggins (Stephanie), stepson Shawn Huggins (Jeneane), six grandchildren, and his sister Norma Lee Terry Thomas (Clark).
Pat graduated from Douglas Freeman High School in Richmond in 1960 and attended classes at RPI (now VCU). He entered the workforce at West Engineering Company, Inc., and was employed there first as a machinist and later as an estimator. He founded Classic Machine & Engineering, Inc., in 1977. He successfully owned and managed his business until 2008 when he retired and sold it. As a businessman he was active and held office in the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME). He was active as well in the Industrial Management Council (IMC) and served as president of this organization in the early 80's.
Pat served two years in the U.S. Army (1967-68) and spent one year in Vietnam where he served in a search and recover unit.
Pat enjoyed a wide variety of interests and activities throughout his life. He was an avid boater for over 30 years and owned several boats during that time. He rode a Harley Davidson "Fat Boy" motorcycle, he was a lifelong Redskins fan, and he loved a good game of golf. His enthusiasm for life and his willing spirit never wavered. He inspired us all to be better and show up bigger in our lives.
The family will receive friends at Woody Funeral Home, Parham Road Chapel, 1771 N Parham Road on Wednesday, May 24, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A service to celebrate Pat's life will be held on Thursday, May 25, at 11:00 a.m. at the Woody Funeral Home, Parham Road Chapel. Linda, Frances and I want to send our sincerest condolences to you and your family on the passing of Pat. I apologize but we were out of town all last week and could not make the celebration of his life.
I was the fifth wheel in the group of Pat, Maynard and Ross that went to Myrtle Beach every spring for golf. What a grand time we had trying to beat each other.
Every night after our 36 holes we would shower; Pat would have his two mixed drinks and I my two or more beers before going to dinner. Maynard was driving my car and Pat and Ross were sitting in the back seat when we decided to sing along with Lou Reed to "Walk on the Wild Side". I was singing lead. Maynard playing the sax and Pat & Ross were sitting in the back seat singing chorus. Man, we thought we sounded great!
I salute Pat for his great service to the United States of America and for his not selling his "Fat Boy" to me. According to Pat I would end up poorly.
A great Southern gentleman.
