Paul L. Abrath Jr. passed away in Othello July 11, 2012 at the age of 77. Paul was the only son of Paul L. Abrath and the second son born to Josephine Brunette born February 26, 1935 in Seattle, Washington. Following graduation from Seattle's Highline High School in 1953 Paul worked as a Mechanic, Design Illustrator, and Graphic Artist for Boeing. During this time he attended evening classes at the University of Washington and was a Seaman/Petty Officer in the United States Navy Reserve. Paul L. Abrath Jr. passed away in Othello July 11, 2012 at the age of 77.
Paul was the only son of Paul L. Abrath and the second son born to Josephine Brunette born February 26, 1935 in Seattle, Washington.
Following graduation from Seattle's Highline High School in 1953 Paul worked as a Mechanic, Design Illustrator, and Graphic Artist for Boeing. During this time he attended evening classes at the University of Washington and was a Seaman/Petty Officer in the United States Navy Reserve. Paul was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1957 and served in Uruguay from 1959-1961 as a missionary. After his mission Paul pursued a career in Physical Education and received his Masters Degree from Brigham Young University. In 1971 he was hired as the Physical Education Teacher at McFarland Jr. High in Othello where he would teach and Coach with a passion for helping others achieve their full potential through health and fitness until his retirement in 1992. During those years of teaching, Paul was honored as Othello "Teacher of the Year" in 1977, earned his Doctorate Degree from BYU, and completed a Fulbright-Hays teacher exchange to Camberley, Surrey, England with his family. Paul was married to Joy E. Neff in 1963 and has four spectacular children: Sue (Lonnie) Kirkpatrick of Kennewick, WA; Paul (Wendy) Abrath of Salt Lake City, UT; Karen (David) Meyers of Kennewick, WA; and Mary (Tony) Ashton of Othello, WA; twenty grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Paul was a good friend, and accomplished Artist, Photographer, Musician, Athlete, and served diligently in his many church assignments. He loved classic films, writing letters, and to travel to England.
