Paul Carlstedt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 25, 2013.

Paul Carlstedt, born September 22, 1946. A father, grandfather and all around great guy passed away on June 24, 2013, leaving this earth to be with his savior Jesus Christ and many friends and family that preceded him, including his father Harold "Bud" Carlstedt, his mother Edith Carlstedt and his son Robbie Carlstedt. Originally from Batavia, IL, Paul became an All-American track athlete at Augustana College and then proudly served his country in the Army in the Vietnam War. With his wife Freyja, Paul raised his four sons and showed them through example how to work hard, put others first and look for the fun in every situation. He coached every sports team, was a faithful volunteer at the ARC of Sedgwick County and later became an avid Wingnuts fan, including serving as a player host family. Paul leaves behind a loving family, including his wife Freyja, sons, Jeff (Michelle), Jason (Darcy) and Michael Carlstedt, grandkids Brooke, Josh, Christian and Cameron, and his brothers, Pete and Bruce Carlstedt. Whether it was a friendly bet on the KU game with the loser wearing the rival's shirt or a giant pair of underwear hidden in your pillow case, his fun loving spirit will live on in our hearts and through our actions. Paul's funeral will be adorned with family and friends in their favorite Jayhawk shirts, just like Paul always wore on his travels (Tigers and Wildcats will have to sit in the back). For Paul, live life, love others and Go Nuts! Visitation will be held today 1-8p.m. with family present 4-8at Hillside Funeral Home East. Funeral Service10:00a.m.Thursday, June 27, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church, 5356 N. Hillside. Burial will follow at Kechi Cemetery. Darla Steinert

June 24, 2014 - From the Steinert family (Darla, Terry, Matt and Hannah):
"Some people pass through our lives like never-ending streams. Others stop and touch our hearts with a warmth that never leaves."

It has taken me a year to try and put together some thoughts- and here goes... We moved here from Chicago in 2005. It was a job change for my husband otherwise we would probably have never landed in Wichita. Thank goodness we did. Because it was clearly God's plan to not only introduce us to Paul and Freyja Carlstedt, but build a special and cherished relationship with them.

Paul you will forever be in our hearts. If we had never come to Kansas we never would have never known who Paul Carlstedt was. Isn't God wonderful? Because now we do; and we are blessed to have had you in our life. May we continue to grow in love and friendship with Freyja and your wonderful family.

You were the person my kids were happy to call friend. They loved you like a grandpa. In school whenever they have to write about someone they look up to they always pick Paul. You stood for all things good. And you had a genuine smile and happy presence in every day he rose with the sun. And they are grateful to have Matt's “Honored Veteran” interview and moviemaker project to remember your honor and patriotism. “You were like a grandfather to me. Enjoy your eternity in heaven with God.” - Matt (06/24/2013)

Paul – thanks for being a living example of what being a true disciple of Christ and exercising servant hood as part of your normal day. You have a God-giving heart. Throughout his good (and bad) days he always championed other people first – he served others before he served himself. Thank you for Lent, "Root Beer float Sundays, midweek service meals, Holy Trinity Popsicles, the Super Bowl wings and pool, Christ Lutheran Church's handy man, St Paul's Breakfasts, and the Clinging Cross...(and this is the short list of the all the "stuff" Paul did)

As your choir director we all still miss you very much and we know you have taken your place to sing with the angels in heaven. Rest assured you won't need to mark any music with any half-step up or half-step marks. Your faithfulness, whimsy, and sheer joy in singing in the choir made each week fun. And to think that on June 2, 2013, Hannah's confirmation, that would be your last Sunday singing at CLC. You were determined and you did it! Thank you!!!

And I will close this long tribute to you with words for my dear friend Freyja: “The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not “get over” the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. You will heal and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again but, you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same, nor would you want to.” Someday we will be able to “think” about things again…someday… just call me friend!

And to Paul - never stop being my yellow butterfly that stops by to just see how I'm doing... you continue to lift my spirit in joy.

In God's love, Darla Steinert and family

We had many wonderful times singing in our little choir at Christ Lutheran with Freyja trying maintain some decorum while the rest of us were absolutely out of control. Of course our leader was Paul.
