Apolinar Nunez Cruz passed peacefully into the arms of Our Lord on June 16, 2014. He was born in Waco, Texas on July 23, 1926. He was preceded in death by his Father Alfredo Cruz, Mother Catarina Nunez Cruz, Brother Avelino Cruz, Son Carlos Cruz, Grandsons Mario Alonzo, Jr., and Cesar Edgardo Gamez. He is survived by his wife of over seventy years, Ernestine Cruz, Daughter Connie Gamez and Husband Edgardo Gamez, Daughter Lisa Cruz Alonzo. Grandchildren Edmundo Cardona, Paul Moreno, Martin Alonzo, Marciano Alonzo, Michael Salas, Vanessa Moreno and Carla Cruz Gonzalez, 15 Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Grandchildren, and a large extended family. Having worked the fields as a migrant farmworker he was called to service during World War II. Upon his return he worked for the City of Dallas Water Department being one of the first Hispanic Inspectors in the field, retiring after a 41 year career. He was also popular from the 60's through the 80's as "El Compadre Paul Cruz" his persona as a Chicano radio personality bringing the Tejano sounds to the DFW area. He was a loving Husband and wonderful Father and Grandfather whose presence on this earth will be deeply missed. We wish to thank all of those who visited and prayed for us during this period in our lives, most especially Silverado Hospice and staff for their loving care through this painful journey. Visitation will be on Thursday June 19, 2014 from 6PM to 8PM with Rosary at 7PM at Calvary Hill Cemetery North Chapel, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, June 20, 2014 at 10:00AM at the same location.
