To the family and loved ones of PFC Paul Cuzzupe:
Please know that PFC Paul Cuzzupe was remembered and honored at an event in Northport, NY (Long Island). Today was the 8th annual "I Did the Grid" Run/Walk. Each runner had the names of 4 fallen soldiers on their running bib, that died while serving in Operation Enduring Freedom. PFC Paul Cuzzupe was one of the heroes on my running bib and at the end of the 4 mile run I had the honor of ringing a bell in his memory.
I wanted you to know that PFC Paul Cuzzupe and all those that gave the ultimate sacrifice continue to be remembered and honored at this event.
With regards,
Denise Egan (Bellmore, NY)

I've been thinking of you and your Uncle Dave a lot lately. Not sure why that is. Both in my dreams and in my wandering thoughts throughout the day, my mind sees your smile and I have to wonder where you would be in life had you not left us all so soon. Uncle Dragan and I were talking about it the other evening and both of us think you would be helping other soldiers in some form or fashion. I can see you supporting those that came back with visible, and not so visible, wounds. Either through medicine or possibly music. And even though you are not here, you help many of us every day. What a special gift you posses to be able to do so, even now. I have no idea if there is anything after life on this blue marble. If there is, hug Nana and Papa for me. If you happen to see my Father, tell him I miss him and pour him and Papa a drink. I have no doubt it will be something strong, manly and I doubt they will stop at one! As for your Uncle Dave, well, tell him... it's ok, I'm sure he already knows. Just hug him tight for me. Love you much Paulie.

With every year that passes it doesn't get any easier. Everyone still misses you just the same. The difference with this year though, I didn't cry as much because I thought about all of the fun times we all had as kids and I smiled more than I usually do on that day. I have so many memories of you, Meg, Cory and I hanging out and just doing nothing. And those were some of the best times ever. Funny how people can make such an impact on each others lives. You definitely made one on mine. Thank you for always being such a good friend! I miss you buddy!

Paulie, we miss you and I still think of how you were the only family besides marc and marc to keep me and your dads wedding a secret from your grandmother...not sure how well it worked she said she knew all along, lol, ...miss you and your dad so much, give my sweet a kiss, until we meet again...miss you calling the house asking for Miss Stepma instead of Miss Licia :)

Paul,

Know that your Mother, your Father, brothers and sister love you and that will never fade. All of us are better people to have known you and had you in our lives. You are a very special person to your Uncle Dragan and I and will always consider you our nephew. You brought smiles and laughter to our world and for that we are forever grateful. We miss you Paulo.... more than any words can express. xo

We continue to ask God for strength and courage for Paul's family. We send this poem for you all.
"Christmas in Heaven

I see the countless Christmas trees around the world below
With tiny lights, like Heaven's stars, reflecting in the snow.
The sight is so spectacular, please wipe away your tear,
For I am spending Christmas, with God, this year.

I hear the many Christmas songs that people hold so dear,
But the sounds of music can't compare with the Christmas choir up here.
I have no words to tell you, the joy their voices bring,
For it is beyond description, to hear the angels sing.

I know how much you miss me, I see the pain inside your heart,
But I am not so far away, we really aren't apart.
So be happy for me, my treasured one, you know I hold you dear,
And be glad I am spending Christmas with God this year.

I will ring the Christmas bell for you, that hangs upon your door
To let you know I'm with you, in your heart forever more.
I'll stay just a little while to see that you're okay,
But there's no need to worry, I'll come again another day.

I'll bring with me a special gift from my heavenly home above,
I'll bring with you a memory of my undying love.
So have a Merry Christmas and wipe away you tear,
Remember I'm spending Christmas, with God, this year."

I know there are no words to say at this time, except how sorry that I am. I truly feel your loss and pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you always. Paul will never be forgotten.

For you every single soldier
Those who served so honorable
Your life was forever altered
While I’m home safe and free
I stand with grateful admiration
I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed

But I salute you; allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
Even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
My humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.
I salute you.

For those missing in action;
for those who didn’t make it home.
I know you’re in God’s presence you are not alone.
For every neatly folded flag;
for every shattered family
I will do the only thing I know to dignify your memory.

I salute you, allow me the honor
to salute you with permission let me say
even though I hold no rank know that from my heart
my humble gratitude comes from the deepest part.

I salute you .

To the family: May the comfort from family and friends continue to strengthen you, and may you find comfort in the words found in the Holy Scriptures: "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away."

For the Commander, Carroll R. Michaud

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to our Brother-in-Arms PFC. Paul Cussupe. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Paul. And to Paul it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made for his country while opposing enemy forces in Afghanistan. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Paul, you are a brave American Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,335 military Legionnaire Veterans of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Paul’s family and loved ones.

CUZZUPE family: We are sorry for your loss of your son, brother, cousin, best friend. Surely he was met at Heaven's Gates by Jesus, and Paul instantly knew all the answers to all of God's mysterious ways. As veterans, we wanted to send our condolences as well as this poem to help ease your grief.
"Final Roll Call

Did you hear the sad news today?
A brave American Soldier, PFC Paul Cuzzupe has passed away.
Called by the Supreme Commander over all.
Today he has made his final roll call.

Come Brothers-In-Arms; let us reverently bow and pray
For our valiant comrade, who has fallen this day.
We'll drape his casket with a banner of beautiful hues,
Those glorious American colors: red, white and blue.

That star spangled banner he gallantly fought to defend,
Unyielding and undaunted, he fought to win.
He fought bravely and he fought his very best.
Now the Supreme Commander grants him, eternal rest.

With dignity and honor, we'll commit his body to the ground,
The bugler will sound Taps and we'll fire the volley rounds.
The final military honors we'll render somberly and ever so sadly;
Old Glory we'll solemnly precisely fold and reverently give to his family.

Each Memorial Day we will recall Paul's name,
And attest that his supreme sacrifice was not in vain;
For this lasting legacy he gave to all generations;
It's honorable to respect our flag and to defend our great nation.

So close ranks fellow warriors, for our ranks are thinning.
We must keep on fighting and keep on winning.
With pride and honor we'll march and stand tall,
And we'll proudly - proudly - salute Old Glory til we join Paul at our final roll call.

Farewell PFC Paul Cuzzupe- Be At Ease; Rest In Peace"

Paul is a hero in more ways than one. Not only was he defending our beautiful country, he was always there for anyone that needed help. Paul helped out with the youth group retreats at St. Francis of Assisi. I am also an adult leader and just seeing him interact with the teens of our parish was inspiring. He was always making the teens smile and make the shy ones more comfortable. He was called, "Hot Paul" by the teens because he was so handsome. His leadership, friendship and moral building will be missed. God has a wonderful young man up there in Heaven with him. We now have another saint up there to help intercede for us. Our prayers and thoughts go out to his family and love ones. God Bless You Paul!

We are praying for your family during this sad and tragic time.

We were blessed to have known Paul and have his presents at our house on many occasions. As Paul, Danny, Eric and Robert had "band" practice in our home it was always a happy time. Paul was always respectful and kind. We cherish those happy memories-even the loud music of the band- and wish we could go back to those times again.

Our hearts are sad but know that Paul's faith was always strong and God was active in his life. God bless your family.

To The Family, Friends, and loved ones who today welcomed home a hero. No words can express the sadness of seeing one of our finest arrive home who paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country. As Americans we take for granted the sacrifices of those who serve. PFC Cuzzupe served his nation proudly. Yes, freedom is not free and I hope those who did this will meet their maker one day to answer to God. God Bless you PFC Cuzzupe for serving your country and God Bless your family for sharing him with the world. May we all remember he served his country willingly doing what he was trained to do. Respect that and honor his memory. We all have heroes but for me the ultimate hero is one who serves their country in uniform. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. Mrs. Kaye Sass, Tampa, FL.

As a Marine, a father, a grandfather and a brother, my heart aches for you and your family because of the hole left in your heart and lives with the loss Paul. Its not necessary for me to have known Paul to know what he stood for, how he was loved and how he touched the lives of others. He made a commitment and gave everything to honor that commitment. I can do little to lessen your grief but I can express the honor and gratitude I feel for having been protected by Paul. I can also express my thoughts of peace and courage to you and the family he left behind. I know and understand that you don't get over it, you just get through it.

Words can not express your loss......But maybe this will bring you some comfort.

And if I go, while you're still here..
Know that I Live on, vibrating to a different measure..
Behind a thin veil you cannot see through
You will not see me, so you must have faith.
I wait the time when we can soar together again,
Both aware of each other..
Until then, live your life to its Fullest.l
And when you need me,
just whisper my name in your heart,....
I will be there.

Love always & forever,
You & your family are in prayers,
Jeana & Family
If you need me, let me know.
