Obituary

Paul H. Gross, 84, of North Syracuse passed away on Sunday at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Williamsport, PA and has lived in the Syracuse area for over sixty years. Paul graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School in Elizabeth, NJ where he studied Mechanical Drafting and Design. In 1946 he joined the US Navy where he toured the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Caribbean aboard the USS William Rush and the USS Willard Keith as a radar operator. After earning an Associate's Degree from the Eastern School of Musical Instrument Repair in Newark, NJ for a short time he had a repair shop on 48th Street in New York City....
Paul H. Gross, 84, of North Syracuse passed away on Sunday at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Williamsport, PA and has lived in the Syracuse area for over sixty years. Paul graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School in Elizabeth, NJ where he studied Mechanical Drafting and Design. In 1946 he joined the US Navy where he toured the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Caribbean aboard the USS William Rush and the USS Willard Keith as a radar operator. After earning an Associate's Degree from the Eastern School of Musical Instrument Repair in Newark, NJ for a short time he had a repair shop on 48th Street in New York City. He then moved to Syracuse and began working at the Clark Music Co. while attending night classes at Syracuse University and playing in the Syracuse Marching Band. Soon after, Paul began a career in the heating and air conditioning industry which he pursued until retiring in 1993 with a masters warm air heating license. Paul worked at Galson & Galson, Edward Joy & Co., Sheet Metal Workers Local 58 and Balance Inc. of Burlington, VT. He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church and the Holy Name Society. The center of Paul's universe was his family. A sports enthusiast, Paul was a Yankee fan, golfed, bowled and enjoyed playing baseball. He was a member of the Mattydale American Legion Post 1832, Syracuse Turners, Inc, BPOE (Elks #31), ASHRAE, Associated Air Balance Council and Airplane Owners and Pilots Association. He is predeceased by his son John Gross in 1990.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Madeline Renna Gross; son, David Gross of Orwell, VT; sister Elizabeth Rodgers of Florida; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Thursday 8:30 a.m. at Farone & Son Funeral Home and 9 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home, 1500 Park St.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph's Hospital, Upstate and Hospice of CNY for the wonderful care given to Paul.
