Deacon Paul E.Tupper died peacefully at home on September 23, 2013 at the age of 83.
Paul was born on March 19, 1930 in Ludlow, MA. He was the son of Paul Erwin and Evanore Beebe Tupper.
Paul graduated high school at the age of 17 and promptly enlisted in the army. During four years of enlisted service, he rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. His unit was transferred to Korea in September 1950 and Paul was assigned to the Eighth Army. He returned home in February 1952, commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant/Artillery, and assigned to the 5th Armored Division at Fort Chaffee, AR as a Platoon Leader. While there, he participated in an Atomic Bomb Test in Camp Desert Rock in Nevada. After six years of total service, he accepted a discharge from active duty and went into the Army Active Reserve where he rose to the rank of Major.
Several months after his discharge from active service, Paul met the love of his life, Aurora (Belmont), and they were married a year later. Shortly after, he enrolled at Columbia University and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Finance. He spent his entire career in financial management.
One of Paul's proudest accomplishments was the day he was ordained a Permanent Deacon in the Diocese of Bridgeport in May 1985. Paul served as a Deacon for twenty-seven years at St. Clement Church (Stamford) and St. Mary's Church (Greenwich). He always was thankful to God for calling him to the Diaconate and felt honored to officiate at the marriage of two of his children and to baptize his grandchildren.
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 59 years and four children: Mark (Susan) Tupper, Christine (John) Dunster, Kathleen (Carl) Prutting and Paul (Jean) Tupper. He was the best "grandpop" to Jacquelyn, Mary Kate and Tessa Dunster; Alexandra, Robert and Ryan Tupper; John, Cally, Jake and Genna Prutting and Paul Tupper.
He is predeceased by his firstborn son, Paul Eugene.
Paul lived his life with quiet dignity and understated grace. He will be remembered for his love of others, faith, courage, humility and quick wit. In addition to God and family, Paul enjoyed nature (especially the mountains), music, family dinners, great jokes, spiritual study and spending time with friends.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Thursday, September 26 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Leo P. Gallagher Funeral Home, 31 Arch Street in Greenwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church in Greenwich on Friday, September 27 at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Jimmy Fund, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
