"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race and I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7

With his family by his side, Paul N. Williams, Sr., our gentle giant, passed on to a better life November 21, 2011.

Paul was born in Quitman, Mississippi on July 9, 1929. His family moved to Lufkin, Texas where he attended high school, lettered in three sports and met Charlene Stroud, his childhood sweetheart. He attended the University of Texas on a football scholarship and played four years for his beloved Longhorns. After graduation, he worked for Humble Oil and Refining Company (Exxon). He worked for Exxon for 37 years and retired in Abilene. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and the Beacon Sunday School Class.

He was preceded in death by his parents, OB and Pauline Williams; his twin sister, Pauline Moranto; and his first wife, Charlene. He is survived by their children, Bobbye (Mrs. Lloyd) Summy, Dianne (Mrs. Pat) Phillips and Paul Williams, Jr. and wife, Susan. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, (Kathlene, Stewart, Lane, Lauren, Sandra Ruth, James and Jael), two great-grandchildren, (Caden and Charlotte); his sister Sandra (Mrs. Clark) Beaird, and many nieces and nephews.

He is also survived by his second love, Sharon and her children, Rebecca (Mrs. Gonzalo) Castillo, Mindy (Mrs. Michael) McMaude, Kristin (Mrs. Russ) Sigman and four grandchildren, Ashley, Carlos, Joshua and Annabelle.

In addition to his family, he is survived by his faithful friend, nap buddy and companion, his dog Mackenzie.

Paul was a very private person and wanted a private family time of remembrance. There will be a family graveside service in Huntington, Texas conducted at a later date. Paul would like for his friends and family to remember him telling a joke, playing golf, hunting, talking about the Longhorns, bragging about his children and grandchildren, or in any way that makes them smile. In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to St. Paul's United Methodist Church or your favorite charity.

Sharon and Paul would like to thank all our family, friends, and our church families for being there for us as we dealt with Paul's illnesses. We also want to thank the caring people at Abilene Regional that took care of Paul in his last days.
