Born July 14, 1943, Peggy Ruth Thomas Rushing, age 74, of Nashville, Tennessee, died at Alive Hospice, August 8, 2017. She is survived by her husband, David A. Rushing. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pickett and Roma Halliburton Thomas, and sister Mary Ann Thomas Nellen.
Peggy grew up in Dyer, Tennessee, was educated there through high school, class of 1961, and attended the Dyer Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Her father owned a grocery store there and her mother was the “Avon Lady”. Peggy attended Bethel College in McKenzie, Tennessee, but moved later to Nashville, where she studied at George Peabody College, becoming a High School English teacher. A woman of faith, Peggy moved her membership to the Brenthaven (formerly Brookhaven) Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Brentwood, TN.
During her years in Nashville, Peggy became a member of the Woman’s Club of Nashville and had many interests. She was smart with a great sense of humor, was an avid reader, loved music, movies, and all things of beauty including God’s creation. She was someone who would do anything to help her friends. As Peggy’s health began to fail, she enjoyed keeping in touch with friends through technology. Speaking of that, an excellent source has it that Peggy and Dave corresponded and “fell in love” via the internet before ever seeing each other and marrying!
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Peggy’s life on Saturday, August 19, 2017, 4 p.m., at Brenthaven Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 516 Franklin Road, Brentwood, Tennessee. Brenthaven’s Pastor Kip J. Rush will officiate.

So sorry to hear of Peggy's passing. I knew I had not seen her in a long time, but was so sure this was just a temporary absence. Had no idea she was so ill. She was such a sweet lady and I will now officially miss her. Dave, so sorry for your loss. Thinking of you.

Peggy was a classmate and friend of my late mother, Judy Carroll Maxson, in Dyer. I connected with her on facebook after my mom's passing. She was such a beautiful soul. Always offering words of encouragement, and quick (as a teacher would be) with her opinions. I will miss the late night/early morning messenger messages. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. Be at peace dear lady.

In memory of my cousin: I'll always remember her smiling face, and being around her was a joy. We were neighbors on Dyer Highway. My mother, Alice Raines, used to tell me that Peggy came over to see me when I was born and continued to come over to help take care of me. Mother and I always loved Peggy. Lovingly, Jeannie Raines Ward
