Peggy Byrd Tucker passed away October 20, 2012 from Alzheimer's and other complications at the age of 82. Ms. Tucker was born on July 26, 1930 to Barney Gray and Minnie Moore Byrd and was the youngest of 10 brothers and sisters. She was a life-long resident of Statesville, NC until moving to Marietta, Georgia in 2009 to live out the rest of life with her son Jeff and his family. Ms. Tucker is pre-deceased by her Husband, Paul J. Tucker and youngest son, Reggie Forrest Tucker and her Sheltie, "Happy". Peggy Byrd Tucker passed away October 20, 2012 from Alzheimer's and other complications at the age of 82. Ms. Tucker was born on July 26, 1930 to Barney Gray and Minnie Moore Byrd and was the youngest of 10 brothers and sisters. She was a life-long resident of Statesville, NC until moving to Marietta, Georgia in 2009 to live out the rest of life with her son Jeff and his family.
Ms. Tucker is pre-deceased by her Husband, Paul J. Tucker and youngest son, Reggie Forrest Tucker and her Sheltie, "Happy". She is survived by her son, Jeff Tucker; Daughter-in-Law, Libby; Grandsons, Scott & Jonathan and their wives Elizabeth and Jennifer respectively and three great grandchildren, Lilla Kate, Will and Caroline all of Marietta, Georgia. She is also survived by three brothers and sisters, Eveline Jolly and Jenny Brown of Statesville and Glenn Byrd and his wife Earlene of Conover, NC.
Ms. Tucker graduated from Statesville High School in 1949 and upon graduation was employed by the Statesville City Schools as the Secretary to the Principal at Statesville High School. She retired from the Iredell County Register of Deeds office in an administrative capacity in 1995 and returned in 1996 on a part-time basis until 2007.
She was a member of Cochran Street Baptist Church for over 60 years where she was a member of the choir. Ms. Tucker was also a past member of the American Business Women's Association having served on several committees and was also a volunteer at Iredell Memorial Hospital. She always enjoyed expanding her horizons and took art classes in painting with oil & acrylics, pottery crafting, crocheting, needle-pointing and cake decorating which she baked and decorated wedding & birthdays cakes as a part-time business.
Peggy Tucker was known to her relatives and friends as a great baker of cakes & pies, homemade candy and her homemade "Chow-Chow". She was always baking for someone who was ill and for friends, relatives and acquaintances that had lost a loved one.
Services celebrating Peggy's life will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at The Peoples Church, formerly Cochran St. Baptist Church with Rev. Ervel Jones officiating. Pallbearers will be: Scott and Jonathan Tucker, David Jolly, Tim and Tony Brewer, Steve Burgin, Andy Byrd, Gene and Boyd Roberts. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. Wednesday evening at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent on line to the family to www.bunchjohnsonfuneralhome.com. Memorials may be given to Wellstar Community Hospice For Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain 2000 South Park Place Suite 202, Atlanta, Georgia 30339. Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
