Obituary

Percy Lewis Dryer Thackston, 78, of New Bern, North Carolina, passed away on June 18, 2014. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday June 28, 2014 at Christ Episcopal Church of New Bern, with the internment ceremony immediately to follow. The Reverend Marquita Hutchens will be officiating. Arrangements are by Cotten Funeral Home. Percy Lewis Dryer Thackston, 78, of New Bern, North Carolina, passed away on June 18, 2014.

Percy was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on January 27, 1936 to Turner Bartlett Thackston, Jr. and James LeNoir Dryer Thackston.
Percy attended Spartanburg High School and graduated from The Baylor School in Chattanooga, TN. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University, where he was also a brother of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.
Percy worked as an executive for the Bahnson Company of Winston-Salem, Stipp & Powell, Inc. and Southeastern Mechanical of Greensboro, North Carolina. He enjoyed sailing with his wife, Legare. They celebrated their retirement by cruising to Venezuela.
He is preceded in death by his wife Legare Hobbs Thackston and sister Margaret LeNoir Thackston White (Farrell).
He is survived by his children; Legare Thackston Warden, Aubrey Christopher Thackston, Percy Lewis Dryer Thackston, Jr. (Kelly), LeNoir Comer Thackston and a brother Turner Bartlette Thackston, Jr. (Frances). He is also survived by a granddaughter Aliina Warden Rowe (Chris) and his grandsons James Thackston Warden, Turner Bradley Thackston, and Baeley Aubrey Thackston.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to: Kappa Sigma Fraternity, 1610 Scottsville Road, Charlottesville, VA 22902 or the SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House, 100 Big Rock Weigh, PO Box 640, Newport, NC 28570.
The family of Percy Thackston wishes to thank the staff of the SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House for making his final days peaceful.
