Perry George Dickinson, age 87 of Rootstown, passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 16, 1926, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, to parents Robert and Isa (Starkey) Dickinson. Perry was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Parish. Perry was an avid golfer and bowler, and always enjoyed fishing. He was a conservative Democrat who was very active in Portage County politics. Perry helped on many local, state, and federal election campaigns.

He left Kent Roosevelt High School early at the age of 16 to join the US Marine Corps. Perry went on to serve in the Pacific Theater during WWII, and received the Purple Heart medal after he was wounded in Okinawa. After returning home, he married the love of his life, Clementine Bosko, on June 25, 1949. Perry continued his education at Kent State University and later graduated from the Akron University School of Law.

After graduating law school, Perry and Clementine moved to Chicago, where he worked for the FBI for several years. Once he returned to Portage County, Perry began his career in law, which spanned several decades and encompassed many different positions. He served as the Law Director for the Village of Garrettsville, as an Assistant Prosecutor for Portage County, and as Assistant Law Director of the City of Kent. Perry was appointed to serve as special prosecutor for the State during the May 4th incident at Kent State University.

He opened his own law office in 1961, and partnered with Joe Giulitto in 1968 to form the Giulitto and Dickinson Law Firm. Perry specialized in criminal defense, estate, and contract law. He was always willing to donate his services to those in need. Perry was elected judge of the Portage County Municipal Court in 1987, serving two full terms. After his retirement, Perry continued to serve as a Visiting Judge in Portage County as well as several neighboring counties.

Perry's community service did not end in the courtroom. He also served as a member of the Robinson Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees from 1981 – 1987, Past President of the Ravenna Boys Club, Past President of the Portage County Bar Association, and served on the State of Ohio Criminal Justice Committee.

Perry is survived by his children Kurt (Beth) Dickinson of Suffield and Caroline (Al) Duesler of Palmyra; grandchildren: Alexandria Dickinson, Sarah Duesler, and AJ Duesler; sisters: Patricia, Lois, and Charlotte, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Perry was preceded in death by his beloved wife Clementine Dickinson on May 21, 2011. He was also preceded by his parents, his sisters Gloria, Eloise, and Helen, and his brothers Richard and Glenn.
