STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Former Staten Islander Peter Amato, 86, of Las Vegas, a retired Toyota service manager, died Jan. 25 in Mountainview Hospital, Las Vegas.
Born in Manhattan, he was brought to Brooklyn as a child and moved to Eltingville in 1964. He settled in Las Vegas in 2006.
He was the service manager for about 15 years at Staten Island Toyota in Bulls Head, retiring in about 1995. He also worked at St. Clare's R.C. Church in Great Kills from 1996 to 2006.
He was a hard-working family man, said his son, Robert.
His wife of 59 years, the former Amalia Bello, died in 2006.
In addition to his son, Robert, also surviving are another son, Joseph, and one grandson.
The funeral will be Monday from the Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Great Kills, with a mass at 9:45 a.m. in St. Clare's Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
