Peter Chistolini Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 19, 2014.

Chistolini, Peter, 68 of Tavernier, Florida died unexpectedly Saturday, January 18. He was born May 1, 1945 in Milton, MA to the late Ugo and Angela Chistolini. Peter graduated in 1963 from Milton High and immediately joined the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country through three tours of duty in Vietnam. Peter was the recipient of both a Purple Heart and Bronze Star and was Honorably Discharged as a Staff Sergeant following his service at Homestead Air Force Base.

Thereafter, Peter joined the Homestead Police Department and enjoyed 25 years of police service before his retirement. He served as a Lieutenant and retired as a Captain in 1995.

He was a dedicated public servant and took to heart – every day – his oath to protect and serve. His fellow officers were his extended family and it was a fraternity to which he proudly belonged.

Peter was an avid fisherman, loved the water and always had an engaging fish-tale. He was a long-suffering Miami Dolphins fan and a University of Miami supporter; but on occasion would cheer for the FSU Seminoles at the behest of his children. He was also a NASCAR fan and especially loved Dale Earnhardt.

Peter never met a stranger, was always quick with a handshake, comforting word or joke. He had the most infectious smile. Peter was loved.

Peter is survived by Joan, his wife of 23 years; his siblings Dorothy (George), John (Marilyn), Mary (Michael); his children Suzanne (Trip), Paul (Lisa); stepchildren Devon (Tania), Cullen (Kerry), Wendi (Chad), and Jayme (Greg); eight adoring grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and cousins both here and abroad.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday January 22nd at Branam Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. A reception for all of Peter's friends will be held immediately thereafter at the FOP Lodge at Harris Field. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors on a future date. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions can be made to the Florida Children's Brain Tumor Foundation at 740 SE 3 St Ocala, Fl 34471

I Lived in the Homestead Area for approximately 20 years. (74-94)
As a fellow LEO in South Miami was aware of Lt. Chistolini's Supervisory skills and Valor. Remember one specific incident a hostage situation, with an armed subject. Lt Chistolini exchanged himself for the hostage and talked the subject into surrendering himself. No injuries to anyone. R.I. P. Good and Faithful Servant.

Such a terrific Lieutenant, someone I learned a lot about police work and myself. I had very fond memories about the people I had the pleasure of working with in 1980. Pete, I'll always remember you and miss those times, getting yelled at, by just about everyone in Homestead, except you. You were and always will be a true professional. You'll be missed.
