Peter Gerard Imperiale, 82, with residences in Manhattan and Sag Harbor, NY, died Wednesday, January 4, 2017 in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Peter was born on January 11, 1934, the son of the late Rosario and Emilia Imperiale of Brooklyn, NY. Peter is pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Joan Catherine Redmond Imperiale, the mother of his four daughters: Alicia, Laura, Daniele, and Claudia Imperiale. He is survived by his wife Yvonne O'Neill Imperiale, brother Roger Imperiale, his four daughters, and grandson, James Redmond Carlino. Most of all Peter was a man of the highest integrity and grace, gentle and genteel, witty and soft-spoken with a warm smile. He was a true gentleman who loved life, learning, adventure, literature, travel, photography, poetry, Jazz, art, history and especially his family. Peter lived an amazing and beautiful life and was grateful for all that every day had to offer. With the greatest amount of respect, appreciation and love, we were made better by knowing him. He made everyone feel important and loved and he touched the lives of everyone he met. He will be missed forever and his legacy will carry on in the hearts of all who loved him. Funeral Mass Monday, January 9th at 10:00 am at Saint Francis Xavier Church at 225 6th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY. Military Burial to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

So sorry for your loss. It's a tremendous hurtful feeling when you lose a parent. No matter how hard you try to "prepare" for this day. You never get over the loss but time will start to heal your heart and allow you to move forward knowing he is watching you always. My heart goes out to the Imperiale family

What a tremendous loss. Peter was a rare breed; kind, strong, independent, gracious, lighthearted and a peacemaker. I know he will be sorely missed by my dear friend, his beautiful wife Yvonne and by his family of origin. A true New Yorker in every way, as comfortable and at home in the highest penthouse as he would be shooting the breeze at a hot dog cart. A lover of Jazz, live music and literature, as erudite as they come. My profound condolences to Peter's family and to the city he loved, losing Peter is no different than losing The Hotel Astor or The Carnegie Deli, essential and irreplaceable. God richly bless his gentle soul.
