Obituary

Philip "Pop" H. Fischer, Sr. went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the age of 92. Preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Bernice Conzonere Fischer, his parents, John and Gertrude Fischer, and his siblings, John Fischer and Louise Melancon. Pop is survived by his 7 children; Philip Fischer, Jr., Lynn Fischer (Cindy), Cynthia Dozier (Butch), Bobby Fischer (Deborah), Patty Fischer (Tina Busch), Barbara Schoeppener (Mike), and Toni Fischer, 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Rosalyn, Barbara and the nurses...

Pop is survived by his 7 children; Philip Fischer, Jr., Lynn Fischer (Cindy), Cynthia Dozier (Butch), Bobby Fischer (Deborah), Patty Fischer (Tina Busch), Barbara Schoeppener (Mike), and Toni Fischer, 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Special thanks to Rosalyn, Barbara and the nurses and staff at the Southeast LA War Veterans Home for their care of Pop. The family would also like to thank his neighbors, Tommy DiSalvo and Lynne Hunt, and the Harahan Police Department for their patience and and their eyes on Pop.
Pop served in the U.S. Navy where he was involved in the aftermath of Pearl Harbor, World War II, and the Korean War. He retired as a CPO Machinist Mate after 20 years of service. After his retirement in the Navy, he worked as a Building Engineer for the Baronne building in New Orleans for 20 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Dr. in Metairie, LA on Monday, May 12, 2014 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until service time. Interment with military honors to follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Philip's name to the Wounded Warriors Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
