On this eve of Independence Day, I am thinking of you Phil. You are independent of the pain and suffering that life gave you for such a long time. I am hopeful that you are now at peace and enjoying time with Mom and Dad. Please watch over us as we continue to work through the grief, pain and details you left behind. I am hopeful that we will do as you had wished.

I worked with Phil for about 5 years, prior to his recent retirement. His jokes, dry humor, and stories from his military service often provided us a chuckle or at least a smile. Phil was known as a bit of a grumpy old man, but he was really a 'softy' at heart. He will be missed, and our prayers are with the family, during this difficulat time.

Phil was a close friend at Yorktown. We got together a few times after graduation. I kept him in my address book and would occasionally drive by his house -- as I did very recently -- perhaps hoping to see him outside or to reflect on our friendship. May Phil rest in peace and my deepest sympathies to Barbara, Mimi and Roberta.

The thoughts of what could have been continue to run through my mind. Regardless of the distant relationship, you held a special place in my heart. I'm praying you are with mom mom and pop pop. I'll always think of you when I pass a tobacco shop in the mall.
