Celebration of Life - Phyllis Jean McGinnis
On April 1st, 2016 at Scripps Green Hospital in San Diego, CA, Phyllis passed away peacefully at 9:40a.m. From a failing enlarged heart and is now with her Heavenly Father. At the time of her passing she was 58 yrs. old and surrounded by close friends from her church as well as hospital staff co-workers who worked with Phyllis in years past.
Phyllis was born in Rockford Illinois on May 26, 1957. She was the third child and only daughter of Shirley Ann & Michael Arthur McGinnis.
Phyllis spent her childhood going to church, camping, fishing, being cute, and loving everyone. She moved with our parents to California (San Diego/Escondido area) where she started working at Scripps Green Hospital as an LPN and continued for 27 years. The growing condition of her heart forced her to quit early. She spent her last 5 years sharing an apartment with her brother Jim McGinnis. Jim not only was a part-time caretaker and roommate for Phyllis but took her on road trips to the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Park, and to the dessert. She loved getting out when she could.
After spending the last week of Phyllis's time with her in Room 319W, I come to realize that she had soooo many friends and relatives that truly loved her. Many came by from the two churches she attended. A lot on Facebook sent her messages which were read to her daily. Then the staff that had worked with her at the hospital during her employment there, came by to talk with her and check on her frequently.
Ricardo, an RN that took care of her near the end said, "I remember Phyllis would come into work every day a couple hours early to clean everyone's charts for them." He and other staff continually would remark about her and how she always helped everyone. - Roy McGinnis
