Priscilla Droge Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 15, 2017.

Priscilla Droge, 94, of Kenmore, Washington, passed away on June 14, 2017.

Priscilla Ann was born in Everett, Washington, in April 1923. After high school, she continued her education at Everett Business College. After college, she managed a real estate and insurance office in Everett. During World War II, she was an active member of the United Service Organization (USO).
Priscilla married Leonard Droge in September 1948. They lived in the Lake City area of Seattle for four years before building a home in the Uplake community of Kenmore where Priscilla lived until October 2014. She was the bookkeeper for Leonard's mason contractor business. Leonard passed away in 1992.
Priscilla was an outgoing people person and enjoyed working in the public relations/marketing department at Shoreline Savings from 1975 through 1988. She also enjoyed working for Welcome Wagon and the U.S. Census and taught Chinese cooking.

Hobbies and interests in Priscilla's later years included quilting, reading (mainly mysteries and local current events/history), gardening, and watching birds at her bird feeder. In around 2017, she started an annual Great Blue Heron colony viewing event at the north end of the Kenmore Park and Ride, followed by an Eastside Audubon slide show presentation at the nearby fire station. Priscilla was interested in genealogy and wrote extensively about her family history as well as her memories of World War II. She enjoyed planning reunions and get-togethers that always included delicious food. Priscilla loved animals and nearly always had a cat. She enjoyed swimming at the Uplake community pool, the Aqua Club, until she was 90.

Priscilla volunteered at various organizations. She was an active member of the Kenmore Heritage Society and was very proud of the book she wrote in conjunction with the Kenmore Heritage Society, Kenmore By the Lake: a Community History, published in 2003. In February 2008, she was the recipient of Kenmore Heritage Society's McMaster Award for her contributions to the community, both as a historian and someone who has fostered fellowship among neighbors. She also volunteered at the Northshore and Kenmore Senior Centers for over 20 years. She helped plan activities for the senior centers and was given the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year award in 2005. Throughout her years living in Uplake, she was an active member of the Uplake Women's Club and Uplake Neighborhood Association. She received the Uplake Distinguished Neighbor of the Year award in 2008.

Leonard and Priscilla built a waterfront cabin on Hat Island (official name, Gedney Island) near Everett in 1964. They enjoyed entertaining family and friends at the cabin throughout the years until the cabin was sold in 2013.

Priscilla is survived by daughters Ellen Martin (Paul) and Marilyn Martin, granddaughter Aziza "Almitra" Karastan, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by brother James Boortz, husband Leonard Droge, and granddaughter Kalimba Karastan.

Her memorial service will be held on July 1 at 2:00 pm at Bothell United Methodist Church, 18515 92nd Ave. NE, Bothell, WA 98011.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in her memory to the Kenmore Senior Center, 6910 NE 170th St., Kenmore, WA 98028, or via http://northshoreseniorcenter.org/.
