Winston-Salem- Mr. Richard (Van) "RV" Bowers, 91, joined his beloved wife and Savior on March 9, 2013. Funeral services will be at 1 PM, March 12, 2013 at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Pastor David Harmon officiating. Interment will take place in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. Mr. Bowers was born in Wilkes County to the late Mr. & Mrs. Millard L. and Clora Cleary Bowers, one of eleven children. He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church for sixty two years where he served as treasurer. Mr. Bowers owned RV Bowers Plumbing from 1960 until his retirement in 2005. Winston-Salem- Mr. Richard (Van) "RV" Bowers, 91, joined his beloved wife and Savior on March 9, 2013. Funeral services will be at 1 PM, March 12, 2013 at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Pastor David Harmon officiating. Interment will take place in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown.

Mr. Bowers was born in Wilkes County to the late Mr. & Mrs. Millard L. and Clora Cleary Bowers, one of eleven children. He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church for sixty two years where he served as treasurer. Mr. Bowers owned RV Bowers Plumbing from 1960 until his retirement in 2005. He was a hardworking honest man who loved his Lord and his family. He married the love of his life, Ruby Minton, after being introduced by a friend. They were always together and were married 54 wonderful years until her passing in 1999. He was a US Air Force WWII veteran and served in the 88th Bomber Squadron, the same as Jimmy Doolittle. He was an avid collector and trader of unique items and loved to fish. He will be remembered by his friends at Goodwill and K&W restaurant for always passing out strawberry candies. He was a loving father of five children and a beloved and respected grandfather.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Allen Bowers (Deborah) of King, David Bowers (Ramona) of Germanton, Jimmy Bowers (Teresa) of Germanton, Angie Noah (James) of Walnut Cove and Cindy Williams(Lee) of King; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister, Ruth Schneider of FL; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, two grandchildren, one great grandchild, and nine siblings.

A special thank you from the family is extended to Pastor and Mrs. David Harmon and the church family for their care and concern shown Mr. Bowers.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM on Monday, March 11 at Frank Vogler & Sons, Reynolda Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant View Baptist Church, 1206 Pleasant View Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
