Ruth S. Smoak, 85, of Harbison Boulevard, went to be with her Lord April 13, 2010. Born June 25, 1924 in Orangeburg County, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Christabelle Chavis Spires.
Funeral Services will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2010 at Woodridge Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. Pastor John Hamilton will officiate. Visitation will be 6-8pm Thursday evening at Woodridge Funeral Home.
She was first married to the late James P. Lowman of Ballentine, SC. They had four daughters, Mary Jane (Tom) Metts of Irmo, Judy Russell (Mike) West of Lexington, Janice Young of Irmo and Linda Minick of Irmo.
She is survived by her loving daughters; a sister, Azillee Johnson of Garfield, SC; brothers, Al Spires of Virginia, Leslie Spires of Florida and Jimmy Spires of Georgia; grandsons, Daniel Russell (Pam), Frank Young, Tommy Metts III, Kirt Metts (Kim), and Jason Minick; and great-grandchildren, Jason T. Beckham, David McPherson, Ray Young, Jesse Russell, Cody Russell, Alex Minick, Lee Metts, Taylor Metts, Ashley Metts, and Katie Metts.
She was also predeceased by a grandson, Mike Young; two brothers, Henry Spires and Legrande Spires; two sisters, Cleo Oliver and Lucille Martin Robinson; and her second husband, A.J. Smoak.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to New Life Baptist Church or to First Church of the Nazarene.
