Rachel Murphy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 25, 2017.

Rachel Lee Murphy was born on March 8, 1925 in Holliday Texas and passed from this earth on August 24, 2017. Rachel married Thomas Ray Murphy on August 17, 1943 in Greenville, TX. She is survived by her loving husband of 74 years, two sons whom she cherished, Thomas Ray Murphy, Jr. and Michael Lee Murphy and wife Donna Murphy, six grandchildren: Melinda McGee and husband Tim, Craig Murphy and wife Kathy, Brad Murphy and wife Alex, Cathi Murphy, Amy Sterling and husband Scott, and Clint Murphy and wife Sherry. Rachel also had seven great-grandchildren: Bryce Murphy, Cole Murphy, Dax Murphy, Travis Murphy, Noah Allen, Luke Sterling, Laurel Sterling, and two great great-grandchildren: Destiny Laredo and Finn Allen.

First of all, Rachel was a Christian who faithfully served God. She also was a devoted wife who loved her family dearly. She was a mother who always put her sons first, and she would always tell them how proud she was of them. Rachel was a grandmother who adored each one of her grandchildren. She and Ray were an inspiration and example to so many people of how a Christian should live during their 74 years together. Rachel never spoke unkind about anyone and always made the best out of any situation. During these last few years, her family was always at her side and gave her the care that she needed and deserved.

Ray and Rachel loved to travel and spend time at their lake house. She always told her children to go and enjoy life while you can because it will pass you by before you know it. Rachel loved to work in her yard, and she had such a green thumb. Her yard was always so neat and beautiful. She loved to sew, do ceramics, and make beautiful quilts. You have never tasted pie crust like Rachel could make. This was her specialty, and her family looked forward to all of her different homemade pies.

Our wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother will truly be missed. She touched each one of our family’s lives in so many different ways and because of this she will live forever in each and every one of us.
