Ralph Jerry Winkle passed away Thursday, December 1, 2016, at a local medical center, Rome, Georgia, following a sudden cardiac event.
Jerry was born March 6, 1943, in Rome, Georgia to Ralph S. and Pearl Selman Winkle. He was a graduate of West Rome High School Class of 1960. He served honorably in the United State Air Force during the period of the Vietnam Conflict, with emphasis in long-range communications. He retired after 38 years of service from Temple Inland now International Paper.
For his close friends and family he was noted for his quick wit, compassionate manner, and unwavering faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce Winkle Stone and her husband, G.W. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol Abernathy Winkle. Nephews, nieces, and cousins also survive.
He was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church.
The family received friends Sunday December 4, 2016 from 1 pm until 2 pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, Rome. A service followed at 2 pm in the sanctuary with Dr. Kenny Ott and Dr. Wayne Hopper officiating. Interment then followed at Sunset Memory Gardens, 790 Indian Mound Dr., Cartersville, Georgia, 30120 with full military honors.
Pallbearers were: Steve Stone, Rick Stone, Jack Landrum, Harry Neal, Clarence Stephens,and Edward Stephens.
Flowers were accepted or memorial gifts may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church 606 Turner McCall Blvd SW, Rome, GA. 30165.

Mrs. Winkle I met Jerry at the Parker Senior Center. He was a talented billiard player and a welcomed member of "The Pool Room Gang". I will miss talking with him, his humor, and his presence daily and during our future tournaments. May the Lord bless and strengthen you and everyone he loved.
