Coach Benny was a great man. Simple as that. My brother, Tom, and I played for him on the Indians baseball team at SAFB back in the 70's. Aside from my parents, nobody had a greater impact on my life as a kid. Even though I had not communicated with Coach Benny since I graduated from law school in 1991, I still think of him often. He taught us all how to play the games of baseball and life the right way. He always insisted that we play hard, root for our teammates, and respect our opponents. (And who could ever forget running The Hill before and after every practice.) Bust A Gut was a mantra around our house, and it still lives within me. I will miss Coach Benny. I only hope I can play on his team again one day.

Coach Benny was such an inspiration in my life that helped me become the person I am today. His Positive, spiritual, motivational influence of being my 1984 Top Of Texas Sheppard Redskin Football Coach propelled me into being the future athlete I am today but, most importantly the person I have become. I was very sad to learn of his passing and I am sorry we are experiencing the loss of such a terrific person. God placed Benny on this Earth for a reason to fulfill his destiny of being a wonderful servant to kids and spread the love of Jesus to the sports community. I wanted to say Thank You to all my teammates, friends, Cheerleaders, parents and coaching staff of the Sheppard Redskins especially Coach Benny for believing in me and for helping bring my only State Championship in my Football Career. I have soo many great memories of you and your family. See you in Heaven Soon Coach Benny.....David Blackman #53 Top Of Texas Champs 1982 Sheppard Redskins....

Our boys, who are now 38 and 40 loved Coach Bennie. He had so much confidence and patience in them in basketball and soccer, and they did prove to be very good in high school and college. They owe a lot of team play to Coach. RIP COACH BENNIE. Tom and Carol Crossq

How well did I know Coach Benny? I coached Little League Baseball at Sheppard AFB in the 80's. I coached both Minor League and Major League. My team was the Rangers and Coach Benny was the Padres. I was never successful in beating the Padres. Coach Benny was to good of a coach. I always looked up to him both as a coach and a person. I miss those games at Sheppard, even the ones I lost. From 2005-2010 Benny coached my oldest son while I was stationed at Sheppard AFB. His heart for the kids he coached can never be matched by anyone. Thoughts and Prayers go out to his family.

Thousands Of children
I know it is customary to name Military buildings after military heros of historical significance and I do not know after who the Youth Center is named currently but this Youth Center is the house that Coach Benny built. A military Hero to many and I firmly believe the building should be dedicated to the legacy of Coach Benny.

No surprise reading messages from all over the United States upon the passing of Coach Benny. He was often a substitute father figure for countless Air Force "brats." The number of children that can truly say he was their "First Life Coach" is no doubt immeasurable. Thanks for the life lessons at the SAFB Youth Center in the 80s and the motivating words to this young boy who didn't feel he was good enough when he made the All Star Baseball team.
Our world could use a few more Coach Bennys. Heaven just received theirs.

I had the privilege of serving with him at Sheppard AFB during 1964 through 1966 !! Then we lost touch for almost 40 years, until my daughter and son-in-law (The Wesley Garcia's) were stationed there in Sheppard during 2005 thru 2008 and who was their Couch?? None other than Couch Benny!! Our grand kids used to say, he reminds us of you PAPU!! And I said, I think I know this guy!! And low and hold, it was my old Friend, Benny of many many years ago!! May you rest in peace my dear Friend!! SMSgt Leonardo Yzaguirre Jr. U.S.A.F. (Ret) Love to all of your Family and Friends!!

Coach Benny, I and many others want to thank you for devoting much of your life to the positive development of so many of our kids. Through sports, you taught our kids many valuable lessons and attributes. I want to give you a slow, respectful salute and I know you will rest in peace. You touched all the bases, scored all the touchdowns, and now you've finished the race. God bless you and your family. Hope you meet one of your players, Tony Berry, Jr. in heaven, he talked about you all the time. Tony Berry, Ft. Worth, Texas
