Ray Jason Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 17, 2017.

JASON, Ray, age 91, has joined his wife, Shirley and daughter, Lynn in Heaven. Ray is survived by his son Keith and daughter in law, Laney.

Born and raised in Chicago, the son of Jerry and Helen Jason, Ray joined the Navy at age 17. A proud WWII veteran of 8 years serving in the Navy and earning several medals of Honor helped to mold his future. Upon leaving the Navy and marrying his lifelong friend and sweetheart, Ray began his career as an apprentice bricklayer. Soon there was his first child, Lynn, a move to the suburbs, the start of a business, and another child, Keith. Business became a priority for Ray, and Ray Jason General Contractor was born. A true businessman with a strong competitive drive, Ray became a successful builder in the greater Chicagoland area. After moving to Florida in 1972, Ray continued his profession successfully building condominiums and homes throughout the state. Ray’s competitive spirit also was evident in his love of sports and lead to a perfect score of 300 in bowling and a hole in one in golf. But it was baseball that was his true love. Love of the White Sox, then the Rays would keep Ray entertained, sometimes happy, often mad at what he would witness on the field. Always a coach and student of the game, Ray spent many hours teaching young men the basics of baseball. A quote from one of his baseball students, “the best baseball mind he ever knew”, says it all. My father will be missed greatly, but also had a terrific life.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park Peacefield Chapel, Clearwater.

I will always remember Ray for the character that he could be, even up to the end. At least he will be in the company of your Mom and Lynn. You will get through this with the help of friends and family. He will be missed. Sorry for you loss.
