Ray Everton Barnes, Sr. born September 6, 1923, died at home with family January 21, 2014. Ray is predeceased by daughter Dorothy C. Olson and wife Suzanne W. Barnes and sister Nellie Gustafson. Ray is survived by his wife of 26 years Ann MacElwee Barnes. Surviving children Ray E. Barnes, Jr., wife Janet P. Barnes, Ryland Lee Barnes, wife Patti Barnes, John MacElwee, Robert MacElwee, Ann Voight, husband Rick Voight, Art MacElwee, wife Margret MacElwee, siblings Vivian Broun, Mary Barnes and Eddie Barnes. Ray was blessed with grandchildren and great grandchildren. After the passing of Suzanne in 1986, Ray reconnected with his widowed Kempsville High School childhood sweetheart Ann Eichelberger MacElwee and enjoyed the remaining years of his life "being'19 again". After serving with the US Army Air Corp during WWII, Ray spent many distinguished years in the automotive aftermarket and retired from Maremont Corporation as a Council of Professionals member. Ray was active with the fun and important activities in his life, the "37- 48" KHS group and Bayside Presbyterian church until his health no longer allowed attendance. Ray shall always be remembered as both a gentleman and a gentle man. He loved life, he loved people and he loved to laugh. Family will be receiving friends for visitation at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home on Saturday, January 25, at 10 a.m. A celebration of Ray's life will be held directly following at 10:30 a.m. A private Burial will follow.
