Raymond Morris Bowen, Jr. died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, the 20th of May 2012, in Hunt, Texas. He was enjoying a wonderful weekend with his wife and friends in his favorite place in the world, the Texas Hill Country. Ray was born on the 22nd of December 1959, in Dallas, Texas to Sally and Ray Bowen, Sr. He graduated from St. John's School in Houston. Raymond Morris Bowen, Jr. died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, the 20th of May 2012, in Hunt, Texas. He was enjoying a wonderful weekend with his wife and friends in his favorite place in the world, the Texas Hill Country.

Ray was born on the 22nd of December 1959, in Dallas, Texas to Sally and Ray Bowen, Sr. He graduated from St. John's School in Houston. Ray began his college years at Rice University before graduating from the University of Texas, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He then attended the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University and received his Masters of Business Administration. Ray started his career with Bankers Trust in New York and Houston, before moving on to Citibank's Houston office where he was responsible for business development in the energy sector. He joined Enron in 1994 and worked in a number of capacities. He played a major role in managing Enron through its bankruptcy, and he was characterized as a "stand-up guy" by individuals observing his leadership. Ray next worked for Silverpoint Capital, a Connecticut-based hedge fund, and he successfully opened and managed its Houston office. Most recently, he had joined Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co., LLC. He was a member of River Oaks Country Club and Allegro, and he served on the board of Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business. Ray attended St. John the Divine Church.

Ray's colleagues respected him for his financial acumen, his honesty, and his integrity. Ray's advice and guidance were always valued highly by his coworkers, friends, and family. Ray will be remembered for his love for his family and his joy of life.

Ray is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife, Jennifer Justice Bowen, and their children, Raymond M. "Bo" Bowen III and Ellis Ann Bowen; his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Raymond M. Bowen, Sr.; his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. John Justice; his sister, Beth Bowen Urdahl, and her husband Kent; his sister-in-law, Amanda Justice Robertson, and her husband Grant; his nieces and nephews Sarah, Matthew, Michael, and William Urdahl, and Justice and Lina Robertson.

The memorial service is to be conducted at noon on Saturday, the 26th of May, at The Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Boulevard in Houston, where both the Rev. Dr. Laurens A. Hall, Rector, and the Rev. Dr. Douglas W. Richnow, Senior Associate Rector, are to officiate. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent Sumners Hall.

Prior to the memorial service, the family will have gathered for a private graveside service at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are Eddie Allen, Steve Draper, John Graves, Doug Hill, Jay Kelley, Billy Lemmons, Michael Mengden, Bob Parkey, Risher Randall, Jr., Jim Reilly, Wells Stewart, John Strawn, Will Symmes, Gerry Willinger, and Richard Zdunkewicz.

In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions in Ray's memory may be directed to Rice University Resource Development, MS81, P.O. Box 1892, Houston, TX, 77251-1892; or to the charity of one's choice.
