William Ray Byrd, age 87, went home to be with the Lord, on August 29, 2012 at Holston Valley Medical Center. Ray was born in Scott County, Virginia and was a longtime resident of Kingsport. He was a W.W. II veteran having served in the U.S. Navy. Ray attended Andrews Memorial Chapel, where he was a Men's Sunday School teacher. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Collie and Bertha Bates Byrd and a daughter, Brenda Gail Byrd. Survivors include his wife of sixty-six years, Bea Byrd of Kingsport; two sons, William Ray Byrd, Jr. and wife Diane of Blountville, Paul Victor Byrd and wife Tabitha of Kingsport; one daughter,...

Survivors include his wife of sixty-six years, Bea Byrd of Kingsport; two sons, William Ray Byrd, Jr. and wife Diane of Blountville, Paul Victor Byrd and wife Tabitha of Kingsport; one daughter, Linda Sue Salyer and husband Marvin of Kingsport; one sister, Rhoda Cole of Blountville; thirteen grandchildren, Shellie Pollick and husband Joe of Kingsport, Vince Salyer and wife Kristie of Kingsport, Marcy Roney of Mebane, North Carolina, Katrina Waye and husband Danny of Kingsport, Danita Newton of Kingsport, Jennifer Gryder of Blountville, Sonya Amos and husband Charles of Kingsport, Shota' Byrd of Johnson City, Cody Johnson of Kingsport, Corey Johnson of Kingport, Curtiss Lileich of Connecticut, Brennen Berry of Duffield, Virginia, and Ashlyn Berry of Duffield, Virginia and eight great-grandchildren, Abram Amos, Noah Amos, Jeron Waye, Zoey Waye, Lucas Roney, Haleigh Salyer, Caleb Salyer and Maylee Lileich . The family will receive friends Friday, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home, with funeral services to follow at 7:00 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, at East Lawn Memorial Park.
