Raymond Gordon MacDermott, 88, of Centralia, passed away Jan. 29, 2018. He was born Aug. 22, 1929, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., to Ralph and Eva MacDermott.
Raymond graduated from Wilkes-Barre High school in 1947. The Korean War started in 1950, during that time, he was working as a drafting clerk. Raymond was drafted into the United States Air Force for three years. He spent part of that time overseas in Greenland and Korea, as an Airman 1st Class, working on aircraft electronics and radar systems.
After his discharge from the Air Force, he moved to Washington and attended Western Washington University in Bellingham. While he was attending classes, he met the love of his life, Kay Margaret Olson of Centralia. In 1958, Raymond graduated with a masters of education and married Kay.
In 1961, Raymond started working for the Centralia School District, teaching eighth grade english and history at the Jr. High School. After 31 years of teaching, he retired in 1992. Raymond was involved with the Lions Club, Centralia High School Boys Basketball, (taking statistics for 30 years), he also enjoyed camping, woodworking and construction, which led to the building of two family homes in Centralia.
He was a generous, loving father and grandfather. Raymond dearly loved his wife and would have been married to Kay 60 years in June.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Harold MacDermott.
He is survived by his wife, Kay MacDermott; son, Kevin (Pat) MacDermott; daughters, Megan Deaver and Amy (Kevin) Roy; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Ryan, Tyler, Brenden and Skyler.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
