Raymond Thomas Strasma passed away peacefully in his home in Edinburg, Texas at the age of 79. He was a native of Gilman, IL, and was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mary Lee. He was also preceded in death by parents Edward Charles Strasma and Kathyrn Reilly, and siblings Jay Strasma (wife Eleanor), Kay Kuiper (husband Art), Laverne Strasma (wife Marion). Ray is survived by his wife Jean, and sons Steven (wife Ana) of Saudi Arabia, and Greg of Augusta, GA. Ray is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 step-daughters, Marie Siebert (husband Jeff), of Plano, Texas, Jamie Sweat (husband David) of El Paso, Texas, 5 step-grandchildren and 7 step-great grandchildren, and a large extended family.
Ray proudly served as a highly skilled marksman in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He was VP of Special Projects with Archer Daniels Midland Company for over twenty years. In retirement, Ray settled in the Rio Grande Valley in a wonderful community among many close friends. He enjoyed an active social life, playing golf and coordinating a number of recreational activities.
Visitation will be held 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home. A Memorial Service will follow at 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Earthman Resthaven. The Graveside service will be held at 11:15 a.m., Monday, March 30, 2015 at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Parkway, Houston, Texas, 77038

Ray was a great man and a joy to be around. He made a positive difference in the lives of all he knew. I felt so blessed to have him in our family. I miss him so much already. I will hold to all the wonderful memories.
