Raymond Eugene Bisset, aged 82 years, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family in the early hours on Sunday, September 8, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Ray was born in Ashley, Pennsylvania, on October 26, 1930 to John and Sarah Bisset. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 57 years, Kesano ("Kay") Bisset, and his children, Raymond E. Bisset, Jr.; Sonna J. Greene & husband, Dave, and children, David & Tamara; Richard D. Bisset & wife, Amy, and children, Richie & Rachel; all of Raleigh, NC; and Thomas D. Bisset and his wife, Jennifer, and children, Kaylee & Madison of Oceanside, CA. Also surviving are his sisters, Margaret "Pat" Kowalski, Shirley Lockhard, Adelene "Susie" Barker, and brothers, James and William Bisset and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, two brothers, John and Robert, and one sister, Elizabeth Heefner.

Ray served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps for 23 years and was a decorated soldier serving two deployments to Vietnam and the Korean War, retiring in 1972 in Vista, California. Following retirement from the military, Ray went to work for the California Highway Patrol as a commercial vehicle inspector until his second retirement in 1993. In 1995, Ray moved to North Carolina with his wife to be close to his daughter and her family. Although he moved to Panther territory, he carried his Pennsylvania loyalty and remained a true devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan. While in Raleigh, he became active with Senior Friends and enjoyed bowling with the Silver Foxes, and was acting President of the Bowling League for five years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great friend to many who knew him. His loving wife, his children, and his grandchildren, were very dear to him, and there was never a day that passed that he was doing something to help and bring happiness to their lives (e.g. Camping, fishing, hunting, coaching Little League Baseball, picking the children up from school, babysitting, cooking out and family trips). He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and wonderful friend to many. He will truly be missed.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening, September 12, at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 1701 East Millbrook Road, Raleigh, NC 27609. Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to the or Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607.
