Obituary

Raymond James Hufft Jr, 89 of Nashville passed away on Tuesday evening.   He was born to the late Raymond (Sr) & Helen Carlton Hufft on January 25, 1924. He was raised in Sardis, MS 50 miles from Memphis. He was very fond of his childhood and cherished his visits back to Mississippi. He was married to Mary Frances Eagle Hufft of Pampa, Tx for 67 years. They married in 1945 on Christmas Eve. He is survived by a son Kenneth Davis Creel of Murfreesboro and a daughter Lauren Grant (Greg) of Brentwood. There are also 7 surviving grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters...

He was born to the late Raymond (Sr) & Helen Carlton Hufft on January 25, 1924. He was raised in Sardis, MS 50 miles from Memphis. He was very fond of his childhood and cherished his visits back to Mississippi. He was married to



Mary Frances Eagle Hufft of Pampa, Tx for 67 years. They married in 1945 on Christmas Eve. He is survived by a son



Kenneth Davis Creel of Murfreesboro and a daughter Lauren



Grant (Greg) of Brentwood. There are also 7 surviving grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sisters Dorothy Williams of Memphis and twins Mary Nix and Martha Still of Biloxi,MS also a brother



John Carlton Hufft of Middlebury Indiana.



 



Raymond served in the US Army Air Force during WWII. He was commissioned as a First Lieutenant and assigned as a pilot instructor for B25 bombers. He had a passion for serving our country. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1949 in Civil Engineering. He provided engineering for private citizens, industry and municipal governments for 52 years. He had his own firm and also worked for several prominent engineering companies through the years along with private consulting.



 



He completed numerous projects in Tennessee, Mississippi and Kentucky. He was part of a design team in Denver, Myrtle Beach, Chattanooga, Nashville and Birmingham working on large community projects, ski resorts recreational parks and the development of water resources and stations.



A highlight for him was the opportunity to work in Thailand on a World Bank Project. He was a member of the TN Society of Professional Engineers. He had a love for art, and was talented in painting and drawing.



 



Raymond was a member and Sunday school director at Crievewood Baptist Church for 44 years. He was a devoted Christian and known for his gracious personality, his listening ear, and many deep friendships. His “Southern Gentleman” approach to life and his humor will never be forgotten. They were always present in sickness and in health.



 



Visitation will be held from five until seven o'clock in the evening  on Friday the 13th of  September at Crievewood Baptist Church, 480 Hogan Road, Nashville, TN. The funeral service will be held at three o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 14th of September at Crievewood Baptist Church with visitation held one hour prior to the service. Interment to follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
