Obituary

Raymond Edward Nauslar Jr, Red or Grandpa Red, as he was so lovingly called, was born February 15, 1923 in Herman, Nebraska to Raymond E. and Agnes Nauslar Sr. In Herman he enjoyed life on his family's cattle and dairy farm with his four siblings: Eva, Vivine (V), Darlene (Dar) and brother, Jim. While in Herman he attended Herman Country School and this is where his love of education began. At the onset of the depression, sadly the farm was lost and Red and his family moved to Omaha where he continued his education and attended Ashland Park and South High School.

And a true South High Packer he was. He excelled both academically, graduating in 3.5 years with honors, and athletically, receiving an athletic scholarship to college.

After graduation, he attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln on a Football Scholarship. Following his first year, WWII was in progress and Red, along with six of his buddies headed to war as part of the United States Coast Guard - Merchant Marines. He served with pride from 1942-1946 and was honorably discharged at the end of WWII. And thankfully all seven friends returned from War and began their lives.

Red married Mary Jean Popp (GG) on November 8, 1946 and together they raised nine amazing children: Terry, Lynn, Dennis, Tim, Mary Beth, Kevin, Kim, Candy, and Deacon. And from these amazing children came 22 super amazing grandchildren and 28 wonderfully amazing great grandchildren.

Red supported his family by working 42 years in the Beverage industry. He was very proud of his service and the friendships he formed while being a part of the Pepsi Family and Mid-Continent Bottling Company.

On September 4, 1981, he married JoAnne Owens. Together Red and JoAnne built a life in Lincoln, NE on Big-E-Nuff Ranch where they spent 32 years together.

Red passed away peacefully Monday, May 12, 2014 in Lincoln. He is survived by wife JoAnne Owens-Nauslar; children and spouses, Lynn and Jerry Luedtke, Omaha, Dennis and Terri Lee Nauslar, Dallas, TX, Tim and Chris Nauslar, Omaha, Mary Beth and John Heinicke, Fort Calhoun, Kevin Nauslar, Golden, CO, Kim Dasher and Bob Rodino, Omaha, Candace McGrath, Omaha, Deacon and Marie Nauslar, Carlsbad, CA, daughter-in-law, Marilyn Nauslar, Golden, CO, AJ Nauslar, Omaha; 22 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents; his four siblings; his first wife Mary Jean Nauslar; and son, Terry.
