Raymond Route Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 5, 2014.

Raymond Arthur Route, beloved husband, father and friend, died November 3, 2014 at home in Arvada, Colorado. He was 90 years old. Neala, his wife of 42 years, had passed away in 1988. They are survived by two sons, Ronald (daughter-in-law, Kip) and Gary (daughter-in-law, Cheryl); along with three grandsons: Brian, Matthew and James.

A native of Colorado, he was born in Denver in 1924. Since 1962, he had lived in Wheat Ridge.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific theater in World War II and was recalled to active duty with the U.S. Air Force for the Korean War. He worked more than 40 years for the Western Electric Company, rising to become an office supervisor.

Over the years, his real passion was working with young people, leading a squadron in Civil Air Patrol in the 1950's. He was a founding director of the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps and provided adult leadership and mentoring for hundreds of Blue Knights from 1958-1972.

The memories of Ray will be fondly remembered. He was loved by many and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Services were held on Friday, November 7th at 2pm at Olinger Highland Mortuary and Cemetery. Interment that followed the funeral service featured members of the Buckley Air Force Base Honor Guard and former Blue Knight, Andy Smart, who played taps.

Hi Ron and Gary:

I was saddened by the news of Ray's death.

The other side of the coin...He lived a long and meaningful life. I and Jerry and Lew and I can't count how many other lives he touched with his dedication to the Civil Air Patrol and the Blue Knights.

Rest in peace old friend.

You will be greatly missed.
