Rebecca Sharp Sorensen
1922-2017
"Forever Young"

Rebecca (Becky) Sharp Sorensen passed away peacefully on September 10, 2017 at the age of 94. She was born on November 2, 1922 to Leo and Marcella Sharp in Hastings, New Zealand where her father was serving as Principal of the Maori Agricultural College for the LDS Church. After her parents' mission, the family settled in Salt Lake City where Becky graduated from South High School and attended the University of Utah. She affiliated with Chi Omega sorority, making many dear, life-long friends.
On March 31, 1943, she married her sweetheart, S. Calvin Sorensen, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Cal and Becky started married life on a Woods Cross dairy farm they named "Calbecca", an affectionate nickname they carried with them through 71 years of marriage and now appears on their gravestone.
Cal and Becky settled in Holladay, Utah where they lived for 30 years raising six sons and one daughter. Becky was an excellent homemaker who created a nurturing environment for the family, kept an immaculate home, and taught her children the values of faith, integrity, responsibility, and work. Her life's purpose centered on the family. She absolutely adored her husband, each of her children, and her posterity.
Becky was an elegant lady, always well-groomed, well-dressed, and well-mannered. Her quick wit and sense of humor charmed and delighted everyone around her. Becky loved gardening and outdoor activities, especially snow skiing and horseback riding with her family. Committed to physical fitness, Becky worked with a personal trainer at the spa until she was 92.
Becky served her community as a guide at the Lion House, as a hostess at the LDS Church Office Building, and as a member of the Utah Symphony Youth Guild for several years. Cal and Becky had wide circle of friends and especially enjoyed their association with members of Dinner Set for over 60 years.
When Cal retired from South East Furniture, Becky fully supported his dream of moving to a horse farm in Hollister, California. That was when she adopted her motto of "Bloom Where You Are Planted". She carried that positive attitude with her throughout her life, making the best of every situation. After 11 years, they returned to their roots in Holladay to be close to family and friends.
A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Becky loved the Lord and felt His guiding hand in her life. She served in many leadership positions in Primary, Young Women and Relief Society. At age 82, she served as a Young Women advisor and attended her last girl's camp where she received the "Forever Young Award". Her posterity and countless youth have been influenced by her Christ-like example and testimony.
Her husband Calvin, her parents, brothers Hugh and Hal Sharp, son Lowell, and great-grandson, Weston, predeceased her. She is survived by her sister Marianne Sharp Evans, her children Stafford (Debbie), Mark, Becky Sorensen Seare (David), Soren, Sharp (Laura), and Chris (Marce), 16 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Holladay 18 Ward, 2625 East Milo Way (4810 South). Visitations will be at the church on Friday 6:00-8:00 P.M. and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment to follow at Salt Lake City Cemetery.

I was one of her Y.W. so many years ago in the 8th Ward before they moved to California. She prepared me for the temple and has been my example as I've served in Y.W. through the years. She had a sparkle and smile that was loved by all. Such a great lady!!! Sending love and prayers to your sweet family~

Dear Sorensen Family,
Becky was over the Primary when I was very young. And then, she served in the MIA. She was a great leader. I remember babysitting your children as they were just younger then me.
When my Mother died she helped me with cooking for my family.
She helped us make costumes for the roadshows. We had fun at the Spruces for girls camp. We slept in tents! I have so many memories of Becky, and your family, when we lived in Holladay. That was in the old days of Holladay.

With all my love,
Natalie Shaw Hickenlooper

Sharp and Family:

I send my heartfelt condolences to you and your family. Your mother sounds like she was a class act, and what a contribution she has made to our world through her own accomplishments and evidenced through the successful children that she raised. Unfortunately, we're losing the Greatest Generation.

Fondly, Michelle (Shelley) Hilpert Ebersole
