Rebecca Wall Maddox, 88, of Rome, GA, died February 3, 2014 at her residence. She was born December 18, 1925 in Elberton, GA, daughter of Longstreet Hanson Wall and Rebecca Frierson Wall. She graduated from Elberton High School and attended George State College for Women and graduated with honors. She received a teaching fellowship to the University of Missouri where she taught and studied art. She then went to the University of Georgia and obtained a Masters of Art degree in painting. Rebecca Wall Maddox, 88, of Rome, GA, died February 3, 2014 at her residence.

She was born December 18, 1925 in Elberton, GA, daughter of Longstreet Hanson Wall and Rebecca Frierson Wall. She graduated from Elberton High School and attended George State College for Women and graduated with honors. She received a teaching fellowship to the University of Missouri where she taught and studied art. She then went to the University of Georgia and obtained a Masters of Art degree in painting. She taught art at Shorter College for several years, before moving to Westminster Schools in Atlanta as Head of the Art Department. On June 18, 1955, Rebecca married James D. Maddox and returned to Rome, where she continued teaching art at Thornwood and giving private lessons.
Rebecca was a member of the Junior Service League of Rome, a founder of Chieftains Museum, and a charter member of Covestors. She was also a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America, serving as President of the Rome Chapter. She also served as chairman of State committees; and after serving as Chairman of the Patriotic Services Committee for a number of years, she continued to act as Patriotic Services Consultant for many projects and committees. Rebecca was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James D. Maddox; a step-grandson, Nathan Maddox; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Survivors include daughter, Rebecca Frierson "Becca" Maddox; step-son and daughter-in-law, Francis A. "Frank" and Glenda Maddox of Falls Church, VA; step-daughter and son-in-law, Gertrude "Tru" Maddox and Robert Helms of Florence, Italy; sister, Eleanor Wall Allen of Greenville, SC; sister, Dudley Wall Wade of Decatur; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph H and Pat Salmon Wall of Rome; and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at 2 PM at First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Jeff Chadwick officiating. The family received friends from 12:30 pm until 1:45 pm in King Hall prior to the service. A private interment followed in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
