Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 25, 2014.

Reuben James Madison Keeling
October 15, 1911 – June 23, 2014
Reuben Keeling entered into eternal life at the age of 102 on Monday, June 23, 2014 at the Hospice Care Center. Born October 15, 1911 in Birchtree, Missouri from the union of Alfred and Sarah Keeling, he spent his childhood in the Shannon County, MO area and graduated from the Birchtree High School.
Reuben met Norel Lucille Stout and they were married in 1934, she preceded him in death on October 14, 2007.
Reuben was a member of the Bethel Assembly of God church in Grand Junction. He enjoyed fishing on the Grand Mesa, hunting, DOMINOS and gardening the last several years. He was a "rock hound" and often family would ask, why do you want that rock? Reuben would reply "that's a great conversation piece!"
Reuben leaves behind three sons; James Frank Keeling of Clifton, CO, Charles Reuben Keeling of Buckeye, AZ, Robert D. Keeling of Clifton, CO, four daughters; Ailene Smith and Ruth Privette both of Grand Junction, CO, Ruby Dawson and Reba Baker both of Syracuse, UT, a sister; Hazel Miller of Mountain View, MO, thirty-one grandchildren, fifty-five great-grandchildren and twenty-nine great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and daughters; Barbara and Bonnie.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, June 30, 2014 at the Bethel Assembly of God Church with the Pastor David Huslig officiating. A visitation will be held from 4-6 pm, Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Martin Mortuary.

Grandpa,
I will forever miss the sparkle in those bright blue eyes when you told me about all the adventures in your life, and how they would tear up when you talked about how much you loved the Lord. You made me enjoy fishing so much that I do it often and still call out here fishie, fishie, fishie, just like you told me to do, as that's how you caught your fish. I am so thankful that I married into the Dobben family and got you as my Grandpa. Love you,

Grandpa Keeling was such a great man that it is impossible to say it all. My heart is sad at not being there around his friends and family right now.
He taught my brothers and I to fish. And he spoiled me with Grand Mesa fishing so that I never had much interest in fishing for anything but cold mountain rainbow trout.
I will never forget our visit in grade school, when during a trip to the nearby country store in GJ he said "boy, you mark my words. People think I'm crazy, but I tell you it's going to happen. They are going to start bottling water and selling it! Mark my words - they are going to SELL water!" That must have been about 1970, probably a decade or two before it happened.
And I remember how he pointed out that the canyons and landscape were water-carved in the great flood, and that any other theory was foolishness.
In his reading of Scripture, though, he was even more certain of the future events that God had promised. He knew where he was going, he knew the day of reckoning that everyone would have before God's throne, he knew that only the blood of Jesus was adequate to pay our sins against God, and I don't ever recall him being shy at sharing those truths. In fact, he spoke about them more and more frequently with age. And I suspect his faithfulness in telling people was a reason God kept him on the earth so long.
Now he's gone home to unspeakable joy, and to many incredible reunions, and to see the face of his Savior. And when he returns as a warrior in the army of the King of Kings, I'd be very honored to ride beside him and his grandson Tim.
Grandpa, we miss you!

This message is for you Grandpa...I have so many many great memories of you, the hundreds of fishing and hunting trips with the stories that only you could tell...you were an amazing roll model for me and I hope that I can someday be the grand father to my grand daughter that you were to me....in your honor, I will take my grand daughter for her first fishing trip this week. While I am sad that you passed, I am happy that you were able to live such an amazing life and I am blessed to have been your grand son...miss you grandpa.

Love and Condolences to the family of Reuben Keeling. The last of the three amigos fishing and hunting. Ken Bounds, Roger Allen, and Reuben were friends in business and pleasure of which we were a part of. Reuben never saw a mountain or trail he didn't want to climb. We have been so blessed to have been part of his life and family for many years.
He will be missed by all.

Uncle Rube was a very large part of my family as I grew up. I feel very fortunate to have visited with him on his 102 birthday at his son Bob's home. His hunting & fishing stories were so enjoyable. To all the family my prayers are with you. Love to all, Sharon (Sherri) Stout Lamb.
