Richard Drewry McCown, a longtime resident of Olive Branch, passed away Easter Sunday, April 16, 2017 after a long illness, surrounded by his family. He was 74. Richard is survived by his companion, Linda Boyd; his children, Tammy Bryant, Danny Taylor(Mindy), Paige Russell, Vaughan Nichols(Mark); his eight grandchildren, Cody Barthol(April), Lindsey Barthol(Garrett), Drewry Taylor(Laurel), Megan Whitener(James), Casey Russell, Sara Russell, Shelby Nichols and Mitchell Nichols; his three great-grandchildren, Zeb Taylor, Lupin Taylor and Aubrey Whitener; his brother, Jimmy McCown(Connie), his sister Ruth Drewry(Bill), and his sister in laws, Phyllis Parker(Kendall), Judy Kaplan McCown(Pete), Aggie McCown, Gail McCown, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Bell McCown; his mother and father, Ruth Harwood Fly(Wilson) and Oswald Stuart McCown; his brothers, Dillard McCown(Jeanie), Stuart McCown(Aggie), Harwood McCown(Gail), and his sister, Frances McCown Whittinghill; his infant grandson, Keegan Nichols. Richard was a lover of life. He loved his family, friends, playing tennis and dancing at the Memphis Bop Club. He was also a member of First Baptist Church in Olive Branch, and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. The family will receive friends Thursday, April 20 from 12 p.m. until the funeral service begins at 2 p.m., all at Brantley Funeral Home, 6875 Cockrum St., Olive Branch. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Southwoods. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wings Cancer Foundation of the West Clinic.
