Richard Adams Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 10, 2011.

Richard "Rick" was born February 9, 1942 in Evanston, Illinois to Robert F. and Ruth Adams. Most of his childhood was spent in Glen Ellyn, Illinois with summer breaks in Wapacca Wisconsin at the family cabin which his father designed and built. Also in the summer the family took a trip which took them to camping destinations throughout the United States. It was on one of those trips that he decided to one day live in Colorado. Rick graduated from Glenbard High School in 1960. He attended Iowa State University studying biochemistry and psychology and was a member of the Alpha Omicron Chapter of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. Rick did do the course work for his classes, but he also spent much time painting, drawing and running. In 1963 he left Iowa State to attend the Art Institute of Chicago. In 1964 he joined the Army and served as a member of the Army Security Agency during the Vietnam War. Stationed in Hokkaido, Japan he took every opportunity to explore the country on foot with camera in hand. After his discharge he spent time in Florida before returning to the Art Institute of Chicago. In August of 1972 he moved to Idaho Springs. 1978 was the year he met Susan in Colorado Springs. They were married in August of 1982 surrounded by friends and family.

An Artist and prolific photographer his entire life Rick served as the Art Director of Saxon Mountain Gallery; with Blackwell Oil Company; as a commercial janitor; as a member of the Clear Creek School District Accountability committee; as a founding member of the Rock House Board. Most recently Rick served as an Idaho Springs Councilman until his resignation in January, 2011.

Preceded in death by his father and mother, he is survived by his beloved wife Susan; their daughter Theresa (Jason) Cutright and granddaughters Brittany, Tiffini, Tiffani and Rebekah; their sons Timothy (Lindsey) Adams and Travis Adams; Rick's brother Donald (Diana) Adams and sister Barbara Hill.

Rick leaves behind a well worn Bible and a legacy of fervent prayer for his family, friends and everyone he met; our community, nation and world. "...The greatest of these is Love." I Corinthians 13:13 He loved abundantly and was dearly loved.

Celebration Memorial will be on Saturday, November 19 at 1:00pm at Bergen Park Church in Evergreen, Colorado. Directions are available on the Memorial website linked at www.crownhillfuneral.com.

To the Adams family. I send hugs and prayers in these sad times. Yall were a big part of my childhood as Tim, Travis and I grew up together. Rick was an amazing person. I remember all the times I spent at your house and all the things I learned. Rick and Tim and Travis would pick me up to go to the shooting range or to church or even just to hang out. Rick will be greatly remembered in my heart and I will miss him. I pray that God wraps his arms around all of you and provides strength for you.

Love always,

Dear Susan,
I"m sorry to hear of Rick's passing. Although I never met him, he sounds
like he was a wonderful person- he would have to have been for you to
love him. I know you will miss him greatly but you will see and be with
him again. I lost my husband last year on the 22nd of Nov.- I know
what you are going through at this time. Please contact me if you think
I could help in any way. Cindy Cox Young (Salt Lake City, Ut.)

To Susan, Theresa, Tim, and Travis. My love and prayers for you during this time. May our Lord hold you in his lap and surround you with a warm blanket of His comfort. Ricky was such a testimony of what it truly means to trust God in the fire. I am so thankful to have been a friend of his and to experience the love that he had for his precious Jesus. I know that when he entered the heavenly gate there was much rejoicing- I can't even fathom the joy among all th saints when he arrived- totally healed- I love you all so much. Love, Nora

Dear Susan, Tim and Travis,
We have been blessed to know you and Rick for a few short years. We will remember Rick as a man of prayer and a faithful friend. His stalwart testimony on the City Council was an encouragement in the days of our struggle over the National Day of Prayer controversy. May God surround all of you with His comfort and strength now and in the future.

We know Rick is happier than we are here on earth waiting to join him. I will always treasure the red Chinese stone necklace and earrings that Fred asked Rick to make for me. What is better is I will treasure Rick's smile, humbleness and love for us at church. I love you Susan and we will continue to pray for you.

Dear Susan, Theresa, Tim, Travis and family,

Thank-you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to "share Rick" with you. As I have told many, I am a more whole person because of the Father's love he shared with me and mine. How I miss him but so thankful for our last hour conversation to say the things I wanted to and for us to pray together. What an incredible legacy of lives he touched and the wonderful family he leaves here to finish the work. I KNOW he is finally "home" and what an indecribible joy he is experiencing. Well done Rick!

Dear Susan and family we love you and are praying for you .
We will miss our Dear brother Ricky, but the legacy he left us is so rich. A man of prayer, a servant and a lover of Gods Word. A man after Gods heart. It is amazing to think of the friendship we have had for 35 years. 33 years ago Rick married us in Georgtown CO. Ricky is a dear friend who will be greatly missed as he faithfully stood in the gap in prayer.
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.

Susan, Tim and Travis,

I love you all so much.
I'm so sorry that you have to go through all these feelings of sadness. Your family has always been a second family to me and it is hard to be so far away at a time like this.
Tim - Your Dad's love for photography has been such an inspiration to me. I now take pictures myself and everytime I take out the camera and my kids run the other way saying "Aghhhhh! Mom has the camera again! HIDE!" I think of your Dad... :)
Rick was a beautiful person. I feel blessed to have been his "Cordelia".

He is so very loved and will be missed.

Dear Susan and Family,
I was sad for you and the rest of us to hear of Ricky's passing but, my next thoughts were "Wow he is where he always talked about being with excitement and that twinkle in his eyes, with his Savoir Jesus! He is probably dancing and singing and praising the Lord perfectly the way he wanted to here." I am praying for you that you can find comfort from the Holy Spirit and the Peace that Passes all UNDERSTANDING while you are going through this time of loss. His life and love for Jesus and you helped me to become the person in the Lord that I am today. He was a great witness and that will go on. I love you!
