Obituary

Richard Bryan Arndt, age 68, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2011. Richard was born to William and Ruth Arndt in Chicago, Illinois, on November 9, 1943. He joined the U.S. Navy as an enlisted man in 1961 at the age of 17, then rose through the ranks to retire in May, 1981, as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW03). During his military career, Richard was deployed on two tours of duty to Vietnam. First on the USS Mars supply ship and then on the USS Hancock aircraft carrier. Richard Bryan Arndt, age 68, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2011. Richard was born to William and Ruth Arndt in Chicago, Illinois, on November 9, 1943.

He joined the U.S. Navy as an enlisted man in 1961 at the age of 17, then rose through the ranks to retire in May, 1981, as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW03). During his military career, Richard was deployed on two tours of duty to Vietnam. First on the USS Mars supply ship and then on the USS Hancock aircraft carrier. In 1981, Richard was promoted to CWO4, the Navy's highest Warrant Officer rank, but he declined that honor to choose retirement, instead. In spite of having no formal higher education, Richard followed his exemplary military service with another successful career in private industry, from which he retired again in 2007.

Richard is survived by his wife, Mary Joy Arndt, of Georgetown, Texas; daughter, Deanna Newsome of Katy, Texas; daughter, Lynda Clayton and husband Chris, of Georgetown, Texas; granddaughter, Kira Newsome of Katy, Texas; and brothers, William Arndt of Chicago, Illinois, Larry Arndt and wife Angela, of St. Louis, Missouri and Jim Arndt and wife Shari, of Michigan.

A funeral service will be held at The Worship Place in Sun City, Texas on Friday, November 18, 2011, at 10:30 a.m., with interment to follow at the Central Texas Veterans State Cemetery in Killeen, Texas, with military honors provided by the U.S. Navy.
