Richard Dean Bender, 83, died April 22, 2012 in Needles, California where he had lived for the past 65 years. He was born June 2, 1929 in Russell, Kansas. He graduated from Russell High School, Russell, Kansas. He served in the US Army and retired from the BNSF Railroad after 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Althea Bender and one granddaughter, Stacie Russell.

He is survived by his son, Joseph Brisco; his daughters, Pamela Russell and Joy Ann Adams; his niece Shirley Dahlquist-Bursvold; his nephews, Bob Lundy, Jerry Bender and Dennis Bender and his grandchildren, Tiffanie Mejia, Bobby Mejia, Crystal Russell, Aaron Brisco and Jamie Brisco.

Services were held on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Needles, California with internment in Needles Riverview Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Dimond & Sons Needles Mortuary, 222 E Street, Needles, California.
