Richard E. "Dick" Bond of Helmsburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana on August 30, 2013. He was born in Brown County, Indiana on March 15, 1932, the son of Earl and Grace (Barkes) Bond.
Dick was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the VFW. He retired from General Motors after 41 years of service. He married Lois (Wilkerson) Bond on June 13, 1953.
Dick dearly loved Coaching Little League Ball, Gardening, Golf, Deer Hunting, Fishing, was a prolific I.U. and Colts Fan as well as a Democrat Precinct Committee Person for 43 years, and for 8 years Proprietor of the Country Store at Brown County State Park.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 60 years; Lois, son: Rick Bond, 2 daughters: Amy (David) Patterson and Shirley (Mark) Manley. He is also survived by 1 granddaughter: Avery Patterson and 2 grandsons: Nolan Patterson and Neill Manley, as well as sisters: Betty (Dale) Mathis, Ruth (Loren) Moore and Susie Poling, sisters-in-law: Jean Bond, Pat Bond and Marilyn Bond, 19 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter: Mindy Todd, and 4 brothers: Jack, James, Dale and Bill Bond.
Visitation will be held at Bond-Mitchell Funeral Home, 1682 SR 135 N, Nashville, IN. 47448 on Tuesday, September 03, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. and 1 hour prior to service on Wednesday, September 04, 2013 at 11:00a.m. Burial with Military Honors presented by the Brown County Honor Guard will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Nashville.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Brown County 4H Scholarship Fund c/o Purdue Extension P.O. Box 7, Nashville, Indiana 47448.
