Richard Ray Buffum, Jr. 63, of Starling Street, Keene, NH, died August 21, 2014 at the Westwood Care and Rehabilitation Center in Keene after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Keene, NH on June 9, 1951, the son of Dorothy (LaBounty) and Richard Ray Buffum, Sr. Mr. Buffum was a Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam War era from December, 1969 until October, 1971, as an aircraft crew chief. A lifelong resident of Keene, he was a roofer working with several area roofing companies. Richard Ray Buffum, Jr. 63, of Starling Street, Keene, NH, died August 21, 2014 at the Westwood Care and Rehabilitation Center in Keene after a long battle with cancer.

He was born in Keene, NH on June 9, 1951, the son of Dorothy (LaBounty) and Richard Ray Buffum, Sr.

Mr. Buffum was a Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam War era from December, 1969 until October, 1971, as an aircraft crew chief.

A lifelong resident of Keene, he was a roofer working with several area roofing companies. He later worked at the Keene Center Genesis for ten years, a job he took great pride in, and also received in return, great joy from working with the staff and the residents at Genesis.

He was a former member of the Gordon Bissell American Legion Keene Post #4 and a member of the Italian Club, the Loyal Order of Moose 478, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1413.

Mr. Buffum was an avid Red Sox Fan, enjoyed going to auctions with his wife, Terry, and refinishing furniture. He also loved lake and deep sea fishing, bowling, horseshoes and playing softball. He will be remembered by all as a man of many jokes, lots of stories, and unconditional giving.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Terry Lee (Lawrence) Buffum of Keene; his children, Aimee J. LaBrake of Peterborough, NH, Renee K. Hackett of Bothell, WA, Adam P. Buffum of Boiling Springs, SC; five grandchildren; his mother, Dorothy Buffum of Keene, four brothers, Steven Buffum of Marlborough, NH, Tommy Buffum of Meredith, NH, Donny Buffum of West Swanzey, NH, Neil Buffum of North Swanzey, NH; two sisters, Sherry Lukevich of Webster, NY, Donna Parkhurst of Swanzey, NH; many nieces and nephews; two step-daughters, Denise LaChance of Greenfield, NH, Michelle LaPorte of Spofford, NH; four step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life and words of remembrance service will be held Tuesday, August 26th at 7:30PM in the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene, NH. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:30PM at the funeral home. Burial with military honors in the Monadnock View Cemetery, Keene, will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Buffum's memory to the Resident Activity Fund at the Keene Center Genesis, 677 Court Street, Keene, NH 03431.
