Richard W. Kalb, age 69, retired Navy Captain, served as a Federal Executive Fellow at the Atlantic Council of the United States in 1987 and was the Deputy U.S. Representative to NATO’s Defense Review Committee in Brussels from 1990 to 1993 died of pancreatic cancer at his home in Annandale, VA on April 14, 2016. Richard W. Kalb, age 69, retired Navy Captain, served as a Federal Executive Fellow at the Atlantic Council of the United States in 1987 and was the Deputy U.S. Representative to NATO’s Defense Review Committee in Brussels from 1990 to 1993 died of pancreatic cancer at his home in Annandale, VA on April 14, 2016. He spent most of his Navy career at sea in destroyers, frigates and amphibious ships.After his retirement from the Navy he was the Director of Administration for Catholic Charities of Washington, D.C. for 8 years and was active in his family’s commercial real estate investment businesses in the Midwest. He was a Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA) licensed soccer coach with the Braddock Road Youth Club in Annandale. He was a member and served on the Board of Governors at Army Navy Country Club. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Annandale. Richard was born in Greensburg, Indiana and lived with his parents and twin brother in Japan, Brazil and at various locations in the U.S., where his father was a U.S. Air Force Colonel. He graduated from Culver Military Academy in Indiana and Vanderbilt University where he majored in Political Science and was commissioned in the Navy through the NROTC program. He did graduate work at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. He was a graduate of the Spanish Naval War College in Madrid. He served on several destroyers in the Pacific during the Viet Nam War. In the mid 1980s he served on the Chief of Naval Operation’s (CNO) Strategic Concepts Group in the Pentagon. In his last tour at sea, he commanded a frigate, the USS Cook, in the Pacific. Survivors include his wife of many years, Rosario Justiniani Kalb of Annandale, VA, one son, Robert William Kalb of Stockholm, Sweden, and twin brother, Thomas Kalb of Batesville, Indiana.
