A Funeral Mass will be held for Richard Francis Lowe, who passed away on April 9, 2014 in Portland, Oregon. Richard was born to Fred and Teresa Lowe in Rainier, Oregon on February 9, 1925. Richard attended school in Rainier and graduated from Rainier High School in 1943. After graduation, Richard joined the US Navy on September 22, 1943 where he served as a Torpedo man's Mate 2 Second Class, serving time with MTB Squadron #21 and Squadron #42 during WWII. His PT boat was the first PT boat hit by Kamikaze fire and blown in half during the war. Only one other PT boat was hit by Kamikaze fire. Richard received the Purple Heart...
A Funeral Mass will be held for Richard Francis Lowe, who passed away on April 9, 2014 in Portland, Oregon. Richard was born to Fred and Teresa Lowe in Rainier, Oregon on February 9, 1925. Richard attended school in Rainier and graduated from Rainier High School in 1943. After graduation, Richard joined the US Navy on September 22, 1943 where he served as a Torpedo man's Mate 2 Second Class, serving time with MTB Squadron #21 and Squadron #42 during WWII. His PT boat was the first PT boat hit by Kamikaze fire and blown in half during the war. Only one other PT boat was hit by Kamikaze fire. Richard received the Purple Heart and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal-2 stars before receiving an Honorable Discharge on January 12, 1946.

When Richard came home he went back to school, studying at Oregon State University where he received a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture from Oregon State College ( Oregon State University) in 1950. He enjoyed following Beaver sports; especially football. Richard was an outdoor person and loved hunting and fishing, hunting over fishing. Richard was a member of Elks Lodge No 2411 Gateway, VFW and co-founder and treasure of Save the PT Boats. He was very active in his church, Ascension Catholic Church.

In 1957, Richard met Dorothy Mae Hilborn and they were married on February 22, 1958 in Portland, Oregon at St. Mary's Cathedral. Richard and Dorothy were blessed with a son and two daughters. Richard was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy and grandchild, Jessica Sivley. He is survived by son Frederick Lowe of Portland, Oregon, daughters, Kathy (Steven) Brose of Gresham, Oregon, Patti Sivley of Vancouver, Washington, grandchildren, Shawn (Ashley) Sivley, Matthew Sivley, Nickolas Sivley, of Vancouver, Washington, Brian Brose of Gresham, Oregon and Gabriel Lowe of Portland, Oregon.
