Obituary

Richard C. Schurch, 87, of Elk Rapids, MI, passed away on Aug. 14, 2014 with his wife by his side at Munson Medical Center. Dick was born Jan. 9, 1927 in Huron Twp. to the late Charles and Martha (Weigt) Schurch. He was married in 1968 to Jean (Chesbrough) Kink. After a career as an engineer, he later became president of Bathey Manufacturing in Plymouth, MI. Dick retired with Jean to northern Michigan. He was a voracious reader and had a love of flying, sailing, snow skiing and motorcycling. He also enjoyed travel in the U.S. and abroad. Richard C. Schurch, 87, of Elk Rapids, MI, passed away on Aug. 14, 2014 with his wife by his side at Munson Medical Center.

Dick was born Jan. 9, 1927 in Huron Twp. to the late Charles and Martha (Weigt) Schurch. He was married in 1968 to Jean (Chesbrough) Kink.

After a career as an engineer, he later became president of Bathey Manufacturing in Plymouth, MI. Dick retired with Jean to northern Michigan. He was a voracious reader and had a love of flying, sailing, snow skiing and motorcycling. He also enjoyed travel in the U.S. and abroad.

Dick was survived by his family: wife, Jean, stepsons Mark Kink of Chicago and Jordan Kink of Lakewood, CA; also his daughter, Cheryl Wilcox of Morrison, CO, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and siblings Betty Hardt, Don Schurch, Gerald Schurch, Delores Jewell, Mary Ann Christensen and Barbara Dulecki. Preceding him in death are his parents; sister, Geraldine Martin; and first wife, Wilma (Killian) Schurch.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 4, 2014 at noon, with visitation starting at 11 am, all at the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids.
