Richard Simms passed away on July 23, 2012 in Marysville, WA. surrounded by his loving family members. Dick, as he was commonly referred to, was born on June 19th, 1934 in Tacoma, WA.
He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1953 where he met his future wife, Donna.
Dick was employed as an Air Balancing Technician for most of his career, working for several organizations. He raised his family of five children in Poulsbo, WA. , with the exception of a few years in Alaska in the mid-sixties. He commuted to the Seattle area by ferry to work to raise his family in Poulsbo where they had extended family and to enjoy the slower pace. He was a hard worker that put in long days to support his family and was highly respected in his field of work.
Dick was a loving husband and father who enjoyed spending his time with his family either at home, out in the boat fishing, or on one of the many camping trips usually on the Kitsap Peninsula. He and his family were long time members of North Kitsap Baptist Church and also the Eagles Club. Dick was preceded in death by his loving wife Donna just three months ago, Mother Freda Coad, Father Ernest Simms and brother Bob Simms.
Dick was full of personality, always the life of the party who enjoyed making people laugh and making new friends. In retirement, Dick and Donna took many trips in their motorhome with their family, often to the ocean. They also moved to their property on Timber Lake near Shelton where the family spent many weekends and holidays having fun. He was a big Seattle sports fan, especially Husky and Seahawk football.
Dick is survived by his two sisters, Janice (Jerry) Minear of Camano Island, Judy (Dick) Bingay also of Camano Island. Children, Rich (Ingrid) Simms of Mukilteo, Don Simms of Poulsbo, Dean (Beth) Simms of Hansville, DeeAnn (Steve) Varner of Marysville and Doug (Meika) Simms of Rochester, WA., 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Dick's sense of humor and genuine love for all of his family and friends will be greatly missed. He is now in the loving hands of his Savior Jesus Christ and joined again with his loving wife Donna who he missed so much. His life will be celebrated with a memorial service at Ocean Shores in September. Those interested in attending please contact the family for details.
